Fate Accelerated

I would love to play a game of FA.  Its a set of rules I do not quite grasp, and so I'd like to learn the rules, so a GM with a bucket of patience would be awesome.  There are a number of games that I'd be keen to explore which I've bulletpointed below.  This is not an exhaustive list.

  • I enjoy Naruto.  I am not an expert on the story, but something that shamelessly ripped off the concepts of the setting would be fun.  I'm assuming the jutsu would be manageable as stunts?  No need to keep any of the cannon except the physics of the world - being a ninja is the draw for me!
  • Anything fantasy related, like DND, a Song of Fire and Ice, Skyrim...  I really enoy Exalted and Godbound.
  • I love gritty mecha games like Metal Gear or the Jovian Chronicles (showing my age now). Any sort of game where I would play a mecha gladiator would be awesome!

If you have something else you'd like to run, please shoot me a message!

Fate Accelerated

I've wanted to try running Fate Accelerated actually. I'm at "strongly considering" right now--I just moved and we're still in the process of unpacking and all that kind of stuff, so that's my time-sink at the moment. I'll evaluate in the next few days whether I have the time to put into running a game, but I'm hoping the answer is yes.

That said: I have a couple main ideas that stand out. One I've wanted to try with FA is a very pulpy space opera setting (aliens and empires and all that) in which the PC's are trying to get a princess (a space-princess?) across the galaxy to take the throne of some barbarian kingdom (space-kingdom?) for... some reason, before... something happens, and in the face of opposition from... someone. We'd probably fill in details as part of session zero with all the players.

The other thing I think might be fun actually sorta combines parts of #2 and #3 of your requests: fantasy giant-armour "mechs" defending their city/kingdom/whatever from bad-guy invaders of some kind. Who obviously have either giant-armour mechs of their own or some other mega-size equivalent. So like a focus on the warstriders of Exalted, except we'd spin up our own setting around them.

Either way I'd want to focus on a limited run game, something with a definite end goal. Something that might run as a handful of sessions in tabletop. So movie type focus or mini-series at most, rather than an ongoing multi-season show. That's for two main reasons, one being that I have (hopefully, if I run it) time right now to put in but there's a good chance I won't later--many months from now, but that's the pace of pbp games. The other reason is that it would be really nice to actually finish something for once--a lot of my rpg experience, and pbp in particular, just ends in the game fizzling to nothing and I'd like to see something through for once.

In reply to spectator (msg # 2):

Sounds good to me (another Fate Accelerated absolute beginner, curious to try it).

A space opera with room for a Cyber-Spacepirate-gone-good? Sounds fun!   Same for Giant Mecha defending the edges of civilisation from those disgusting invaders in their tin cans!

I believe most games fizzle due to player lost interest. Most GM's are so worried about running a game, they forget to get feedback from the players themselves. Fate excels a being a game that requires player feedback unlike most.

Yozi:

Dammit Yozi, that is literally the first example for characters I have for that idea. I have a pitch for it written up from a couple years ago, and it has this (direct quote): "Sample Characters: Redeemed Cyborg Pirate...". Seems like a sign.

Alright, alright. I have this pitch written up anyway, and it's the idea I had for trying out FAE which I want to do anyway, so what the heck, I'll give it a shot. Does a daily (+/- for life and whatnot) posting rate suit you? I'll start getting set up, I'll try to have the game ad up for Monday (we'll see how the weekend goes).

Re: Fate Accelerated

Actually since I have it stashed away on my computer anyway, I'll post the basic pitch from my notes. I have some other stuff about mechanics and tweaks but we can get into that in the game itself. Most of the rest of the details will be done with the group at the start of play, but I'll keep a fairly strong hand on it since it'll be a short-duration game.

Queenmakers
Genre: Space Opera

Setting: It's a big galaxy, full of weird planets and weirder aliens. Humans are considered “barbarians” for the most part, which only really matters in the “civilized” alien empires. The most powerful of them claim hundreds of star systems, but there's always another border to move past for those desperate enough (think age of sail for analogous size of the setting). Futurized tech anachronisms are encouraged.

Premise: a star princess needs to get back to her planet before it's too late. She's about as far from home as you can be, and larger forces would very much like to stop her, but you've sworn to see her safely put on her throne. Why? Love, money, honour, whatever—take your pick.

Inspiration: Star Wars (in all its iterations), Saga, Willow, Conan, original Star Trek

Sample Characters: Redeemed Cyborg Pirate, Barbarian Prizefighter, Alien Mystic, Black Sheep of a Noble House, Avian Navigator, Grumpy Tech Wizard, Star-Wandering Ronin
