"Heavy house ruled?" LOL
No. Just a few things. The biggest "rule" applies to Paladins. Everything else is fairly minor. None of my past players ever had a problem with them. Here's the single biggest one.
"Paladins: Paladins have the ability to Lay on Hands and can Cure Light Wounds. Paladins do not gain their powers from any mortal king, or secular ruler; they gain these powers and abilities from the God/Goddess they serve. Thus, Paladins are "knights" of the Church and not the Secular Authority.
Paladins do not swear fealty to any King or Nobleman, they answer to the High Priest and/or other ranking Church Officials of their particular faith. Paladins are not under obligation to "uphold the law of the land," that's the duty of a secular Knight.
Paladins are required to uphold the "laws" of the God/Goddess they serve; the tenants of their faith. All Paladins are Lawful, because all Paladins follow the laws of their God/Goddess, not the laws of a mortal ruler; an "evil" Deity will have "duties" that are the complete opposite of the "duties" which a "good" Deity will require.
To lay people (commoners) a Paladin is a Paladin; though Paladins that serve "evil" Gods might be called an anti-Paladin. Other titles, or nomenclatures, such as Crusader, Inquisitor, Blackguard, et al, are designations bestowed upon Paladins by their individual Church. Such titles might not be known among – or used by – the common people. Examples of these various nomenclatures can be found in Dungeon Magazine #104.
In addition, Paladins have no problem passing judgement on their God's "enemies" and carrying out Summery Executions, or "frontier justice." They neither have, nor feel, a need to involve Secular Authority.
Note: Carrying out such an execution in the middle of the Green Dragon Inn -- for example -- could cause considerable problems. Paladins are not stupid and do not act foolishly in such situations."
If enough people are interested, I'll start a game.
