New player, looking to learn DND

First time really wanting to give DND a go over forum, could do with someone to show me the ropes.

Welcome to tabletop gaming, where even when two people agree a game is good they can't agree on which edition. I polled for opinions on Traveler a few weeks ago and got like fifty completely different and incompatible answers.

You poor soul...

Re: New player, looking to learn DND

The more common ones on the forum right now are 3.5 D&D and Pathfinder, which is compatible with 3.5.  Other ones that might be available are D&D 2nd edition (or Advanced D&D), 4th edition D&D, or 5th edition D&D.

I would say the learning curve on 2nd, 3.5, and Pathfinder is a little steeper than 4th and 5th, but again there are more DMs and players of 3.5 and Pathfinder on here, so you're more likely to find a teacher for those editions.  Also most of the rules for 3.5 and Pathfinder can be found online for free, so that will help tremendously if you don't own a rulebook right now.

Re: New player, looking to learn DND

I run 4th Edition games. I'll try to let you know if I get one going.
