D&D 5e: Casual play

Inexperienced 5e Player here. I have the PHB, and that's it. I'm interested in playing a few things, including the following short list of rough concepts, willing to go with a smallish party of others (3-4 people tops), but also willing to try some solo. Don't really want to fuss too much with established settings because frankly, I don't know them that well. Can start at 1st level, but don't strictly have to.

Short list, in no particular order
  • Monks look interesting. Open Palm and Shadow, in particular. Loved monks, Loved the idea of shadowdancers from past editions...
  • Have a mild urge to try for a Half-Elf Paladin inspired visually via FE: Fates' female Corrin, with Oath of the Ancients. I could opt for the Knight background, which would allow for some backup, as well.
  • Interested in seeing how Warlocks and Sorcerers run, but I haven't messed with them terribly much.
