Sci fi game? Pathfinder, D&D, or freeform

I'm in a sci-fi mood. Anyone got games out there that are a form of d&d, pathfinder, freeform, etc? Oh, and NOT Star Wars, or Star Trek... Also, something that's a bit unique with it's playable races. I normally don't play humans n' stuff 'cause i think it's boring. No, humans with blue skin don't count as "aliens" in my book. I'd also prefer something that can back up at least some of it's stuff with science, instead of it being pure fantasy.

So, let's see what everyone's got.

I think you want D20 Modern, using the Future supplement. At least if you want it D&D/Pathfinder like

Star Frontiers is a free game system with TONS of extra material.
Published by TSR in the days of yore to be the "generic" sci-fi opera game.

You have Laser swords, Rocket Pistols, Sonic guns, Evil mind controlling Worms...
Check you the haven area for the links to the resources. I'd put it in the same vein as Buck Rogers

I see. Well, I'm here in search of a game; not to make one myself. It's something to look in to though

Maybe Dragonstar D20?  Hard to find those games though, 3.0 and all.

I have often wondered what PC's would do if they played Illithiads?

Sci fi game? Pathfinder, D&D, or freeform

I am runing a game where a group of fantasy Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 players have stumbled across a plane previously unknown to the cosmos. The plane is artificially created by a very alien race of tiny folk.

There is an indigenous dust that when harnessed can emulate magic but is tech based. I am still fine tuning the newly created a nanite evolution prestige races.

But you are welcome to drop me an r-mail to get more details that I don't wish to share in an open public thread.

As said in the title, i'm looking for sci-fi, not fantasy. Sure, while you might have sci fi elements, it's still fantasy... unless it's a "mod" or "hack" or whatever it's called these days.

If i really need to specify what sci-fi means in terms of what i'm looking for, think star wars, star trek, dead space, halo... You know what i mean, right?

*EDIT* Well, it's worth looking into the presented options; considering when i made this thread i wasn't thoughtful enough to be as specific as needed. I'll look into the options presented here and let you guys know what i think.

Actually, d20 Modern kind of smushes fantasy and sci fi together, so you can have illithids living in the shadows. But, of course, it uses magic.

I'm running a Pathfinder Spelljammer game... it's D&D semi-sci fi.

The other game that might qualify is I'm running Stargate SG-1. There are currently three teams out in a globular cluster on the edge of the galaxy. It certainly has sci fi elements, but isn't totally the sci fi that you are looking for.

It is based on D&D d20 Modern --> Spycraft --> Stargate SG-1. You can certainly play an alien. The variety of alien's isn't that great; they probably all count as human by your standards. But one team is getting a cat-folk added. There are also Otter-folk and Bird-folk options.

In reply to StarMaster (msg # 13):

I'll take a look at it. Apologies for not being as specific as i should of been when i made the thread, as well as being a little vague with a few things said earlier (Got in trouble for one post due to that). Anyways, it does sound interesting; and fantasy elements mixed with sci fi stuff isn't exactly something i'm foreign to... although it's more "space magic with science thrown in" than the "standard" form of magic.

Anyways, in speaking of what was stated above, do you have a link to the game?

I'm running a AW game right now set in Sci-Fi. WEIRD becomes TECH, and the flavor of abilities is changed to reflect that but otherwise act exactly the same.

So Maelstrom becomes MURMUR, the overpowering Internet Of The Future: And the risk of burning yourself out with information overload.

I'm also allowing third party playbooks, so long as they're in tri-fold format and with review.

Game's called FECKLESS, loosely based on Evolve with a bit of FireFly tossed in for good measure.

Sci fi game? Pathfinder, D&D, AW, Freeform... Etc

What's evolve and firefly?

Also, while I'm still new to AW I'm slowly learning it. I'm in a mass effect game featuring an AW system, but it sorta just died a week or two ago. How disappointing.

Also, I'll be honest... If I knew how to DM, especially if I knew how to DM Apocalypse World's, I'd use my own sci fi setting. It's a project I've been working on for the past year or two; and while I'm still getting stuff written down, I have the most of it in my head. In a different sci fi game featuring space zombies, the DM let me use one of my races. It's pretty fun to use them with actual game mechanics from a system. I'd like to see if other DMs would want to use some of the stuff I made.

This isn't a discussion about that though. Before I get myself moderated again, I'll get back on topic.

So, I've realized that D&D and pathfinder might not work, and it would be smartest to broaden the expanses of game systems that I'm searching for. however, I think I should list a few things that I'd probably turn down. I don't want to be picky, but I don't want to waste people's time either.

-Being forced to roll to breathe. What this means is I would like to avoid a game where the dice is life itself, and you have to roll for the most mundane and simple of tasks. This isn't an old-time cheap product commercial.

-Re-painted humans being passed off as aliens. To specify, I value creativity. Someone pulling a member from the blue man group and calling them an alien is... Not that creative. While I'm not saying that the idea of humanoid aliens is bad, I'd rather not have the whole selection of species I have to play be a few multicolored humans and an anthropomorphic animal of two. I won't quit or turn down a game for this as that'd be rude, because I'd be judging a book by its cover, but... Yea.

-gladiator games. What this means is that the entire focus is combat. No character development, no significant plot, no roleplay, just fighting and stuff. I value story over game mechanics, and being someone who loves to roleplay as a common pastime, something like this wouldn't be fun for me.

That's it for now. If you're one of the people who feature this stuff, don't get me wrong; I won't hate you for it, and I won't call your game bad. It's just that I like to lay out my preferences; especially after a recent realization that I can be too vague at times here. I'd like to fix that.

Also, GMs who have made offers earlier on here, can you link your games?

Sci fi game desired

Ah-ha!

This is the thread I was looking for! I've put up a post in Game Proposals about running a Pathfinder SciFi game. It was in response to this post... that I couldn't find. No magic allowed.

Link to my thread there: link to a message in another game
