Some FATE-based (maybe AW 2E) ideas, Telltale Games-style
FATE Ideas: Telltale Games-style Aliens or Zombie Apocalypse
I've been wanting to get a good introductory one-shot down with FATE. A one-shot with a clear end seems like an easier proposition. I've also been playing some Telltale Games titles recently, and FATE seems like it'd be very good for that sort of thing. Something in that vein, set in the Aliens universe would be good. Or a gritty romp through zombie apocalypse like TWD (though I actually prefer settings with multiple types of zombies, including zombie animals and horrific, monstrous zombies) could be fun. Either way, I have a few things I'd like to mess with:
1) Lots of roleplaying in a dramatic situation. This is survival horror, against a threat that isn't necessarily one you can just murder like a Marine in DOOM.
2) Lots of interesting play with zones and scene/character Aspects. This is the big one right here. I'm trying to get a feel for how I might use similar things to create really dynamic, engaging scenes where the environment and setting are much like a living, breathing part of the game.
3) If Aliens, someone who appreciates the so-called "xenomorph" for as deadly as it is, rather than just another large predator. These things are crazy dangerous, which is part of what makes the whole thing so scary.
I think Apocalypse World (preferably 2E) could work for a similar "feel," but I'm not sure. A lot of what I want to see is how creatively you can use Aspects on characters and scenes as well as zones to make a scene come to life. If you can help bring some of that to life with AW, by all means.
