Rifts GM's
Palladium rules can work okay in a play by post context. There are several such games being run on RPOL right now, and I am a player in two games of Heroes Unlimited. I have probably run ten or so Palladium games, including Rifts (1st and Ultimate editions) on different websites. It works well enough if the GM lays down some hard rules at the beginning in order to define expectations.
For example, I'm too much of a softy. In every game I have ever run, I inevitably get new players who ask, "I don't have the books, but I am eager to learn. Just walk me through character creation, okay?" The system just doesn't work like that, but I can hardly ever bring myself to answer, "No, you cannot play." I inevitably end up spending more time on character creation with the players than in the actual game. This is darn near true for face-to-face games as well.
If I had a small group of experienced players... If I got everyone to go along with my streamlining of the rules to work more smoothly in a pbp medium... without griping that I am cheating their characters just to be mean and unfair...
I think that I will stop here. I really shouldn't commit to running another game when I am this tired. Send me a PM with short description of the character that you would like to play and the theme you would like to explore in the game. Maybe we can work something out when I am thinking straight.
