Gaming Partner
Hello! I’m looking for a “high-frequency gaming” partner. I have fairly regular periods of time when I can post in pretty significant frequency throughout the course of the day and would like to participate in a healthy back-and-forth game exchange with someone.
What I’m looking for:
1. Someone who’s willing to play in a solo game and, in return, run a solo game for me.
2. Someone who can post multiple times per day during the week during the hours of 8am-6pm Eastern Standard Time/1pm-11pm GMT—preferably once per hour—in both the game you play and the game you GM.
3. Someone who can be flexible enough to slow down a bit when my work schedule gets busy. (I promise to do the same.)
4. Someone willing to stick with this for a while.
Details of what I want to play as a player:
Game systems: My favorites are Savage Worlds, 13th Age, D&D 5th Edition, Shadowrun 4th Edition in that order of preference. Open to other options. Definitely not interested in World of Darkness or Dark Heresy.
Game theme: Heroic fantasy, please (with the exception of Shadowrun, natch—can discuss that offline). I am not interested in gritty, realistic or horror themes. I would like to run a small party of 2-3 PCs.
Maturity: Mature at most; I prefer my gaming PG-13. No sex or gratuitous violence, please.
GM control/plot: I want you to be in charge of the plot and drive things. I would like you to have a plot involving big stakes—the fate of a nation, the world, the multiverse—in mind and a story arc in mind. I do not mind at all if you use published stuff. I do not want a pure sandbox. I would prefer an epic semi-railroad storyline to a world with too many choices and less impact for my characters.
Control over Characters: Primary exception to the above: I would like to control the background, development and personality of my characters. I'm happy to create them collaboratively; I just don't want to be handed a concept.
Writing: I prefer a more pulp-action feel than a character-driven “true fiction” feel. I prefer to write my posts in one or two 2-4 sentence paragraphs than in multi-paragraph stretches. I am not a frustrated writer.
Rolling: I want to roll my own dice and I want to roll dice, period. I want the mechanics to be transparent, not behind the scenes. I want this to be an extension of a tabletop RPG, not a shared fiction writing experience.
Player Experience Goal: I want to feel as if I’m part of an epic story where my characters are the star of the show. I don’t want to be the cog a machine—I want my characters to influence things.
I have similar preferences like the above as the game-master in your solo game, but we can discuss those via Rmail. Key points: I like to use published series to provide an epic storyline; I like to run in game systems I know (see my favorites); and I am much more flexible as a GM as I am as a player :-)
Please reach out to me via RMail or start the conversation by replying to this thread.
