D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Greetings dear potent DM's and fellow pbp enthusiasts,

I have always been a fan of small teams with high powered players to go up against really challenging enemies. That is why I propose a Gestalt game with 3 players. Each player would get a role assigned. The Big Stupid Fighter (to tank and dish out damage), The Arcanist (to do battlefield control), and The Heal Resource (doesn't have to be healing focused, just a character with enough healing capabilities to get through several encounters).

I have been dying to play a master of many forms // psychic warrior as the Big Stupid Fighter role. So basically I'm looking for a DM who is very familiar with the rules (which is in my opinion needed to balance a high powered party) willing to run an interesting story. Preferably starting the game at lvl7. And of course a couple of interesting players. Anyone interested?

I might be interested as the Arcanist, though I could do Healing Source as well.

I would be interested in this. I am happy to roll with the Healer role.

Cool thanks for showing interest you guys. The hardest part is usually finding a suitable DM.

I've noticed that there is always a lot of interest in Gestalt games for players. So the 3 player cap might be a bit steep if a DM wants a bigger group. Still looking for one :)

Sounds like fun!  So many of these games start at 1st level, then die after a month and 100 posts.  I'd love to play a skill build something-or-the-other, something a bit a mite cliche and ironic at the same time.

Yeah we need a DM with some creative plots or a cool journey in mind and a bunch of players that will stick.

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Agreed.  Even in a gestalt game, it is generally good to have 4-5 characters, and extra one for possible drop outs.  I wouldn't mind being a non-specialized character role, since I have a bunch of characters running around my head.

So these would be the general roles:

Tank (covered by Joltzz)
Healer (covered by paradox26)
Blaster (can be covered by DarthSelack)
Skill Monkey (covered by phorcys)
Random/Mix of the above (can be covered by DarthSelack)

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

If I may ask, I know this is looking for a DM but is there any player spots still open? I am a bit new to DnD and I would really like to get into a game with a good group of people.

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Hey there, since a DM decides on the game, all spots are open ...

I would however note that we are talking about a Gestalt game, which has a little more complicated rules to build a character, and might be overwhelming for a starting player. That said, there are many dnd games that are beginner friendly. My advice would be to find yourself a game that starts with characters at lvl1-4 and doesn't have tons of houserules.

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Granted, with a group of 4 or 5, there's likely some overlap between the PCs, such as there might be multiple clerics, though they might vary in the roles of casting/turning/combat.  As I've heard said, pick something and do it really well, but don't overspecialize.

On the other side of things, if a player's ready to take the initiative to learn the relevant rules and get their PC built in a timely manner, I'm not too terribly concerned about whether this is their first time playing or their 5000th.  YMMV. :)

Hi guys, I like your concept. I may be tempted to GM's such game. Have you found a GM?

Agreed, it appears that you have shown the only interest thus far.

I hope it means you are willing to run this with us?

I am also interested in joining as a player, I have a number of builds in mind so any role is ok for me.

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Hey guys, that sound insanely fun!! :) as I am new to Rpol, any help on the website will be useful. I will open the game shortly, I will name it "Dark Soul".  Look for it either Monday or Tuesday.

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Intriguing. I am very rusty and may be interested in joining in if the GM has room for me. I have a few varied ideas, but I don't intend to step on anyone's toes, and I'll probably end up with something that isn't 'too' minmaxy focused. Probably more flavor fun than anything. I'll see what comes to me :D

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

Well, There are a number of us who would be reasonably grateful for a GM willing to undertake growth of a party from the superheroic to the epic.

Re: D&D 3.5 High Powered / Fast Progression

I can take a small group, of characters if anyone has not already got accepted into a game(or wands to join another game)

link to another game

starting level: negotiable

the story line of the campaign is quite challenging, so 10+lvl but it is scale-able to lower
