GM/DM Wanted for Shadowrun 5th Edition - New Player

I am looking for someone to DM at least a few Runs (even if they're pre-gen ones from the books) if not a full campaign using Shadowrun 5th Edition. I've been really interested in Shadowrun the past few years, but have never been able to find someone to DM for me or any players to Run alongside. All of my friends play D&D pretty much exclusively. I really want to get my feet wet with Shadowrun 5th and maybe eventually DM for a game myself eventually.

I am a new player (both to Shadowrun and RPOL) and still have to completely familiarize myself with everything Shadowrun since it is complex. I'm going to make mistakes and need assistance because of this, so please be understanding. I am not overly concerned with the location or overall plot, as long as it doesn't modify the standard rules too wildly.

Thanks for your time.

Re: GM/DM Wanted for Shadowrun 5th Edition - New Player

I'm eager to get in on a SR5 game.  Plenty of experience with the system and more than willing to help other players with their concepts.

Okay, sounds good. More as a player than a GM?

Alright, no worries. Two of us, now all we need is a GM and another player or two!

In reply to razielStrakes (msg # 1):

I am new to the site as well and was directed here to possibly find a group for 5th Ed Shadowrun. I'd love to get a game going as well but dont feel ready enough to GM as I've never played this style game before. (meaning forum based)

Thanks!

That'll make three of us then. Hopefully there's a GM willing to pick up the idea and run us a campaign.

Interested GM

Hello all. I would absolutely love to GM/DM/narrate/storytell a Shadowrun campaign. I'm intimately familiar with the setting (as in, have been reading the source material since the first edition; yes, I'm old), and count it among my most favorite campaign settings.

There are a few caveats, though. Firstly, though the setting for this campaign would remain Shadowrun, I'd want to use the system I write/publish, called Saga. It's a universal system, super easy to learn, intuitive, and very flexible. Y'all can check it out on my website if you like: https://yggdrasildistro.files....ook-5th-edition1.pdf

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I passionately detest bad fantasy stereotypes and will not play with them. For example, all trolls in Shadowrun are NOT stupid, brutish bullet-sponges, nor are all elves charismatic and attractive. There are certainly cultural and sociopolitical biases in the Shadowrun world that give elves privilege and status while relegating all goblinoid races to the ghetto, but I'm not interested in poorly thought-out and stereotypical characters.

Thirdly, in every campaign I run each of the PCs has a secret agenda or "skeleton in the closet", in addition to general character background and history. We'd also be focusing heavily on corporate politics, and less on "run-and-gun", kill everything sort of roleplaying.

Again, I'd sincerely love to run this campaign. Y'all share your thoughts/feelings and let's get this thing rolling.

Re: Interested GM

What style of campaign would you be looking for razielStrakes?

Also would you want to have only limited sources to keep the learning curve down?

Re: Interested GM

WalkingWolf, I'll have to take a better look at that Saga system. I'm not at all familiar with it. I'm always interested in new things so once I get a chance to read through the PDF you posted a link to I'll have a better idea.

I don't mind avoiding the stereotypes in place for the fantasy races, I find out of the norm PCs to generally make a more interesting group. A focus more on Corporate politics than run and gun; what do you mean more focus on Corporate politics? I also don't mind less run and gun as I feel Shadowrun is more of trying to avoid the running and gunning since it's more lucrative and better for your extended health to not have to shoot everything, but I'm not sure what heavily influenced politicking would encompass.

Shaman, I'm open to doing a black trenchcoat or pink mohawk depending on what you would be more interested in running, as well as the other players. Since I haven't played almost any Shadowrun (outside of the Shadowrun: Returns video game, which is a fraction of actual Shadowrun campaigns) I don't know which I'd prefer more. Though if I had to choose I would have to ask which would be the easier for a novice. Black trenchcoat seems to take a more realistic approach which I like a lot, but also sounds less forgiving. Pink mohawk is more Action movie which is always a good time, but could get monotonous for a GM (though who doesn't like a good Smokin' Aces scene every once in a while?). Maybe more of a combination?

I don't think limited sources would be needed. I really like the expanded item and ability content that I have looked through and haven't had too much problem with it. I think I have at least a decent handle on normal character creation so it's the actual gameplay flow I'm shaky on as a novice. And although I get the character creation concepts and have built some test characters for experience, I haven't created a character whom actually participated in a campaign so they could be legit characters, but suck at doing runs.

Well before going too crazy into everything, I think I'm pretty quick on the uptake so I don't think it'd be too bad. Just wanted to hit the ground running with some understanding that I'll make mistakes and misunderstand certain gameplay concepts. I learn faster by doing than re-reading over and over again.

Re: Interested GM

In reply to razielStrakes (msg # 13):

To clarify, I'm not opposed to run-and-gun, and action is obviously a huge part of any Shadowrun campaign. I'm just really into campaigns with complex and meaningful plots (that incorporate action elements), including corporate politicking, character backstories and secrets, PC and NPC interactions, morals and ethics - that sort of thing. Geeking Lone Star and Knight Errant mooks and stealing paydata is wiz, but I think Shadowrun campaigns are much better when the story is deeper and richer than "go steal shit and kill people".

Also, as far as system is concerned, you and other players wouldn't really need to be super familiar with SAGA. As I said, it's a universal system, so it'll definitely accommodate the Shadowrun setting (which I have previously run using the SAGA system). Nothing would fundamentally change about the game except that players would have more options, more flexibility and versatility, and more self-expression in terms of game mechanics, AND the combat/magic is deadlier and more realistic (for which the Shadowrun core rulebook provides optional rules, so really little change).

Anyway, let me know what you think. Feel free to get in touch via facebook or email too. Robin Marks (facebook), walkingwolf@riseup.net (email). Cheers!

Re: Interested GM

I, too, would be interested in said campaign as a player. Looking for something with a good pace and complex story. This sounds about right.

Someone have an RTJ for me?

Re: Interested GM

I tend to run a combination of both though I naturally lean toward black trenchcoat these days as the game has moved away somewhat from the Pink Mohawk feel that it started with in First Edition.

I usually run with the standard character level though most of my campaigns tend to lean toward something epic going on though not necessarily epic in power levels.  Street can be fun but it requires a lot of prep/set up work.

The reason I asked about limiting resources is due to the number of books out with their options but if you and anyone else is good with that, I can work with it.
