Looking for Pathfinder with old-school/classic feel
I GM a lot and hardly ever get to play; sadly, most games don't last beyond a few hundred OOC posts and a few dozen IC posts. With that in mind, my current desire (as a player) has become for a game where the group can start out relatively casually—no deep, complex, long-term storyline that's already planned out for 20 levels; just one adventure at a time.
I'd like to start with a 1st-level module, see what happens, and if everyone has fun and it holds together till the end, then maybe we can go on to another adventure of appropriate level—have a group vote for what kind we want to play so we can narrow it down to a few choices for the GM, or something. Basically, I want to come into the game with a relaxed mindset and no particular reliance on continuation after the first adventure, and then—if the group has fun and seems to be getting along—we can all decide to continue or not.
Bonus points, here, for a party (and an atmosphere) with an old-school feel. That is, full access to the game material (feats, spells, etc.), but characters that reflect the classic party builds and illustrations of D&D games of yore: The elderly, white-bearded wizard with a pipe, staff, and pointed hat; the regal elven enchantress or noble elven ranger; the stout dwarven shield fighter with an axe or mace; and so on. In other words, a party and GM actively interested in celebrating a casual game through the device of familiar roles, rather than through optimization or complicated niche builds. No super-specialization, no munchkinning—just a generalist wizard, sword-and-board fighter, and vanilla cleric and rogue sort of situation. Heck, we can even meet in a tavern.
