Talislanta (any edition)?

Talislanta is one of those games/settings I've always wanted to play but never had the chance - I even joined a game here but it went on permanent hiatus before I could play.

The entire game rules and background are freely and legally available online here: http://talislanta.com/

If anyone is interested in setting up a game I'd love to be it. I'd prefer 4th edition but I'd be happy with any edition.

Seconding my own interest in playing in this setting as well. Talislanta games can be hard to find, given how detailed the setting can be, but I always appreciate it whenever a GM steps up to the challenge :).

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

I would be interested.  I've never played before, but not to long ago I came across these PDFs and downloaded them.

The Chronicles of Talislanta rivesed & annotated 2005

Talislanta Hotan's History of the World 2006

A Player's Guide to Talislanta 2007

Talislanta A Gamemaster's Guide to Talislanta 2007

I think there all considered their 5th edition, not to be confused with D & D 5th edition.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

I've got a game that's been running for years, though it's on a hiatus right now.  It's possible that some new blood might kick start it and get us running again, though.

I admit I was sort of looking for a fresh start game but still I'd like to hear more about your game drwheat.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

I've had 1st/2nd Edition Talislanta stuff sitting on my shelf for years, mostly as reference material. I found it fascinating, but never really had an interesting in GMing it--too ingrained with AD&D by then. Also, I never realized there was so much material! Very little of it ever showed up at the local book/game store.

Now that Steve has made ALL of it available as free PDF downloads (at Talislanta Library), I'm finding my interest piqued again!

So if I run a game, what kind of game would you like to see me run? I'll have to delve into the books a bit to come up with my own idea. Something sword & sorcery? Something exotic? Dungeon delving? Wilderness exploration? World traveling?

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

Heh, all of the above. :D

I think a bit of travelling combined with swords and sorcery could be fun. Merchants, entertainers, diplomats, preachers, pilgrims, scholars, spies (disguised as one the former!) might all have a reason for travel.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

Okay. That's a standard type game. Not a problem. Just wanted to make sure that you didn't have something specific in mind, such as a group of wizards or a group of thieves, etc.

I'll get something put together this weekend.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

A group of thieves could be fun actually (especially because I'm leaning towards a spellcasting rogue type), but I'm happy to play a diverse group. :)

What edition do you want to use? I think the big difference is that 4th edition (and 5th edition) does away levels and uses spontaneous magic.

Note: All Talislanta editions are free to download at www.talislanta.com

I prefer 5th edition but most folks prefer 4th. They're fairly interchangeable.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

Fourth Edition is nice because everything you really need is all in one book. Fifth is cool because there is more customization you can do but it is more involved. Using 4th Edition and the Codex Magicus adds in rules to limit the amount of spells someone starts off with so that searching for magic actually becomes a thing again. I had run a 4th Edition game that was going well until 3 players left for various reasons, leaving 5 players and me running 4 NPCs which unfortunately killed my energy for the game. The other players were in other games but those all seem to be on extended hiatus as well....a shame really...I do miss my game and playing in the others...

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

Yes, as much as we like role-playing, RL can be a hard taskmaster at times. Part of that is people evolving in their likes and dislikes, and interests, so it is almost inevitable that people drift away from particular games.

Since the only preference expressed has been for 4th Edition, that's the version I'm planning on using. I'm setting my game in the Seven Kingdoms, at least to start with.

Still working on an idea.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

*sigh* Taking a bit longer than I thought to get it ready. It'll probably be another day or two depending on how much interference I get from RL.

But here's the link to what I've got so far: link to another game

It looks good so far StarMaster. :)

While I do have an idea of where I want to go, the New Archetypes sound interesting.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

I'm interested in this game too. I ran a few Talislanta games back in uni with second and third editions (that was a while ago now...).

I'll pick an archetype and send in a RTJ tonight.

Re: Talislanta (any edition)?

I am looking to reboot my Talislanta game that has been on hiatus. I need 2-3 more players to replace those who are missing. There is one PC that can be taken over, a Marukan Mercenary. Please look over the game and send an RTJ if interested.
