Pagan Knights of the Round Table

I remember playing "King Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame" and I loved that one of the choices was to either have Arthur go to Christianity, or have him embrace the Old Faith, I loved the idea that the Once and Future King might look to Druids instead of the Cross, and call upon the Sidhe instead of Crusaders.

I'm interested in playing a female Old Faith knight in King Arthur's court in a world where Arthur kept to the old ways of Britain.

I had thought of Pendragon for this, but I'm up for any system as long as I can get hold of it and you're willing to help me learn.

Small (4 players) or Solo preferred, a post a day at least (Barring hectic real life stuff of course :) ).

Re: Pagan Knights of the Round Table

It does sound interesting, though central to the story might be the push and pull of new and old faiths.  Virtue isn't necessarily bound by one's faith, so there might be knights of both faiths seated around the Round Table.

Kind of like what happens in the video game.  Would be interesting.

You might be interested in this GM Wanted query:

in particular, my response:
quote:
The game I could offer would be a low-magic Arthurian semi-freeform semi-sandbox*, set in England during the Dark Ages, but probably in the north of England, well away from the influence of Arthur and his Knights - they will exist as chrome only.

There may be border conflicts with the Scots and/or Welsh and/or Viking raiders, characters may stumble across Fae creatures who have inadvertently crossed gateways from the Otherworld, and a few, very few, people, (half-bloods, perhaps) will have some Fae powers and be known as wizards or enchantresses.

In order to create game balance, however, most PCs and NPCs would have to be human. There's no way I can run this game with four wizards, two satyrs and a fighter...

Any interest?

* Semi-freeform = simple chargen with basic rules for combat, magic and chance outcomes, otherwise freeform storytelling interaction.

* Semi-sandbox = The GM will have an overarching plot, a 'probable destiny', which character actions may influence or perhaps alter.

The nag tells me my reply is too short for the quote, but I'm a writer, I decide what's appropriate for the message I want to put across.

Re: Pagan Knights of the Round Table

Age Of Arthur is pretty much made for this, the warring faiths is a central tenet of the game. Uses FATE.

Pendragon would also work. Don't know enough about Keltia, which uses the same rules as Yggdrasill...

Re: Pagan Knights of the Round Table

I remember seeing the Winchester Round Table, which is about 12' round, with 25 places marked on it (Arthur + 24 Knights).

CONCEPT:
The King would be NPC, but the other 24 places could all be PC's.  Every member of the council has equal rights and votes in all decisions.  The King would be an even handed, just, fair, and benevolent ruler - but also subject to the manipulations of his own court.  This would represent the Great Council, having members of all cultures, creeds, faiths, races, and character classes on it - men and women who are not just Knights!  This would bring a New Order of peace, justice, acceptance, and unity that the country has never before seen.

Every Player could control a Major Character, and a Minor character or two, in order for off-line activities/sub plots to be followed, while the main plot is also engaged?  This would also allow for cliche factions, in-fighting, romance (forbidden or otherwise), quests, wars, even PvP if agreed before hand.

This would also bring the greedy and envyous from hundreds/thousands of miles around to get a piece of this action - representing Scots, Welsh, Danes, Normans, Romans, whoever!

I'd like to run with this concept in an Pseudo Arthurian Style (NOT CANON!), in a pseudo Dark Age Britain called Albion (different names and places), in a simple but effective rules lite style Dragon Warriors RPG (NOT FREEFORM), where players are not restricted to their role playing by what character class they are, but define their character class by role playing it -  in keeping with the style of a gritty, low fantasy, semi historic, mature style (NOT ADULT).  The players can define their own fate, or follow a perceived destiny.

If feel this idea differs enough from the first offer to make a case for my own.

That actually sounds pretty damn cool, Bonivant, would be fun to give that a try.

Re: Pagan Knights of the Round Table

Great!

I could probably put this together fairly quickly, but would have to have a fairly slow post rate once we get going (a few posts a week)?

Anyone else interested?
