Looking for supers under a specific system

I'm looking for someone willing to run a game under this system: http://www.gratisgames.webspac...om/files/FASERIP.pdf.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

Phantom Mouse, I just want to thank you for that link. I had never heard of FASERIP, and I did not know that anyone had created a retroclone of that particular game. That document makes for an excellent addition to my collection of game ebooks.

Interested in a supers game, as well. System-agnostic, so whatever the GM likes, I can try.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

In reply to Phantom Mouse (msg # 1):

I might be willing to do this.

Basic premiss 1: It is the modern day about two years after Superheroes emerged on the sceene and it is a golden age of heroics and daring do, but in the shadows an organization is starting to unite super criminals... and oddly a few heroes

Basic premiss 2: WW3 has happened and everybody lost. The refugees of a burning Earth now live in the last city and the living weapons (super heroes) try to protect their new home while being blamed for the destruction of the old one.

I'd be interested in option 1, too. I have no experience with this system, but it looks pretty cool.

Option 1 is cool. I'd enjoy trying out a caped crusader concept.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

I would totally be down for option 1. It kind of sounds like Thunderbolts.

Also FASERIP seems like a pretty cool system.

How does this FASERIP system differ from the old Classic Marvel Superheroes game?

Names have been changed to protect the dubiously innocent, and there's several hundred pages less detail written on FASERIP.

In regards to the other bit, I'd possibly be down for a character in FASERIP depending if the GM is willing to take a premade character with a slightly silly concept.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

There's also a system in play that makes it a little more balanced within a team.  The system is the same past character creation though.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

Just for discussions sake, aside from the rules, what kind of game are you looking for?

Do you want gritty street level action?
Four color action?
Space based world saving?
Intrigue and super spies?

I find the easiest way to explain what I'm looking for is to use a media example. Lots of different examples to draw from:
Daredevil (Netflix)
Avengers
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Tick/The Incredibles
Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon
Justice League Unlimited
Batman The Animated Series
Batman Beyond
Etc.

Or you could give comic book examples:
Watchmen
Dark Knight Returns
Etc.

I am vaguely toying with the notion of taking this on, which is why I ask. But before I commit to that, I want to get a better sense of what you're into. Flavor and themes are important. Do you want dark and broody or fun with comedy mixed in? Are you looking for Spider-Man level personal trouble mixed with super hero action, relationship based drama like smallville, or action-based adventure?

Is there a particular interest in using this system over Classic MSH? The only reason I ask is that I am highly familiar with MSH and would have to reframe terminology with FASERIP, which is a little bit annoying. That's not a total deal breaker for me, but I do have an MSH bias.

I am interested in how they handle character creation. Random creation is often challenging (although can be interesting) and the point-based system leaves something to be desired. This partially random system in FASERIP seems cool on the surface (and should be transferrable to MSH).

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

I really like the "tokens" used in character creation to better balance the characters against each other, and the fact that the heroes start slightly above the average person.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

In reply to Phantom Mouse (msg # 19):

Yeah character creation is good. I like the combination of random and point based as well. Easily emulated in MSH. Again, though, not a deal breaker.

More important are the questions about setting.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

I'd be done for it set in Marvel, just using the creation system with Marvel terms.

Re: Looking for supers under a specific system

I'm not necessarily suggesting we go with the marvel setting.

Can you elaborate a bit on what you're looking for in a game? What kind of conflict are you interested in? What ratio between super identity and secret identity/real life do you want? How much violence would you want to see on a 1-5 scale (5 high)?

Tell me more about the story you want to tell.

It might be easiest to rmail me so feel free to do so to discuss.
