Looking for Heroes-style supers game

There are quite a few superhero games around, but personally, I'm not a huge fan of playing in an established setting or one where superpowers are already well-established and the sight of a cape or two during your commute is nothing new or interesting. What I'm looking for is a game taking place in a world much like the real world, where the PCs are the first superpowered people around - or at least the first they know of. The focus (at least initially) should be on figuring out their new abilities without killing themselves in the process, trying to keep them under wraps, and so on (with villains or other threats showing up before too long, of course).

Although I've been speaking of PCs in plural, I could also do a solo game if a GM is up for that. I'm not too fussed as far as system goes, but I'm most familiar with Mutants&Masterminds and GURPS.

Re: Looking for Heroes-style supers game

I would also be most-willing to play in such a game. Supers who don't start with an understanding of their superpowers are the best, which is one reason why so many reboots nowadays are going with origin stories.

So, +1 from me if there are GMs willing to run it.

Re: Looking for Heroes-style supers game

Also worth noting: it doesn't have to be quite as darkly realistic as Heroes. I like games with a positive and fun mood just as well. :) The title of the thread is perhaps a bit misleading; it's just referring to the 'no established superheroes in the world' aspect.

Re: Looking for Heroes-style supers game

I have a game that's just barely begun. If you hurry, you might be able to get in on the fun. :)

This game is rated Mature.

Re: Looking for Heroes-style supers game

I could run a game using Wild Talents.

Though, I'd insist that each player detail people who are important to their character and even stat out a few for other players to RP. Also, I'd prefer to keep it local with the occasional plot driven globe hop.

Pitch: Your character has been involved in a life threatening event. You only survived because you manifested a super power. As far as you know, you are unique.

Re: Looking for Heroes-style supers game

I would be interested in a game like this. but i would introduce the powers a bit differently.

because powers don't always show up at convenient times or places and you have no idea what they are.

I would propose that each player submit a set of three powers they would like to see played. those three powers must be reasonable and playable. the three powers are than put in a pool that is than drawn randomly by the gm and given to the players that did not submit them.

as players start playing they have no idea what power they are going to get, and thus must truly figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are.

Re: Looking for Heroes-style supers game

I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of that approach. I enjoy the idea of not knowing the exact capabilities and limitations of your power, but I'd like to be able to choose what general sort of ability my character ends up with.
