D&D 3.5 story heavy, slightly high power game ideas

I have a couple of game ideas for 3.5 that I'd love to give a try on Rpol.  I would be interested in games that are much more political, story heavy games rather than dungeon crawls.  I'd also love games that progress to high levels, as my ideas will show.

The two character ideas I have are both gestalt, and I would love a chance to play them into high levels, to take part in the political, story centered arcs that are usually reserved for leaders and high level characters (I've always loved the faerun supplement Power of Faerun, and the various political campaign ideas therein)

My first idea is a dwarf or gnome artificer/wizard (or a similar variation) that would be a crafter and jeweler.  I like the idea of playing through the process of becoming a powerful spellcaster, and making oneself indispensable to nobility, royalty, houses, etc.  I can see him making fine jewelry for kings and queens, and toys for their children, all while working to defend their kingdoms.

The second idea is similar to the first, but would be quite a bit darker.  It would be a wizard gestalt mix that would focus on summoning and interacting with other planar beings of a dark bend (demons/devils, or possibly genies/djinn or others depending on the setting).  Possibly a malconvoker or other type, I think it would be interesting to roleplay the struggle of learning magic from this type of source while still retaining his humanity.  I don't like fatalistic games, though, So I don't necessarily want it to be a faustian story, with his inevitable fall and destruction being a foregone conclusion.

I tend to like Eberron for the political side of games, since i like the houses and the nations.  But I think the summoner type character would also fit well into a place like Luskan or Calimshan in Faerun.  If anyone is interested in  a running a game like this, either for me solo or for a small group, I'd love to hear from you.

Colour me interested in this, especially the second idea. That has a lot of potential. You could have a variety of classes that gain their powers from the darker planes, such as warlocks and binders.

I would also join in a high political Eberron game. Particularly with those conditions and your second character idea. Truth is that I always wanted to work to bring the Dragonmark Houses to their downfall.

Re: D&D 3.5 story heavy, slightly high powr game ideas

I'm going to be starting a game up soon that might fit this, but will be in Faerun. I was planning on running a game where the PC(s) are running a business, using the rules for business in the DMGII and the Power of Faerun. There is a prestige class in there perfectly fitted for a merchant/business owner!

What I was planning was going to not exactly be a dungeon crawl, but operating the business and then having the PCs deal with the random weekly or monthly events.

I don't have a problem with gestalting, and have long believed that characters should be gestalts with one career path for adventuring and the other for social/political careers. An example could be a Fighter 6/Commoner 2--he may be a talented fighter on a battlefield or in a dungeon, but at home, he's a barely competent barely prosperous farmer.

If this sounds like something you guys may like, let me know and I'll point you to my players wanted thread that will go up sometime in the next 24hrs or so.

Re: D&D 3.5 story heavy, slightly high powr game ideas

I voice interest as well and I would love play in game where Power of Faerun + DMG II rules running business is used (and rolling weekly events and what not).

Ofc question is are we business partners basically who either runs a single big business together (as sort stock owner based that one with most 'investment' in company has higher vote but if his vote count is less than other stock owners combined then others can overrule and such).

Or are we running each a own business and we just do cooperations occassion or combine both ideas (own single big business while run our own sepparated businesses individually).

I don't know if I like the idea of mixing high politics with every day business running, especially for the second character idea.  I'd be willing to try your game, depending on how it is set up, but I don't really want to be a gestalt wizard/commoner.  Not a lot of point to that.

Alternatively we may want to set limitations of character choices for one side of gestalt or skill options. If we are going to be professionals, there should be a minimum of skill points put in skills like profession, craft or perform.

Re: D&D 3.5 story heavy, slightly high powr game ideas

I wasn't really aiming for being a professional.  I'm fine with a game where that is an option, but both of my character ideas fit better into the court magician/vizier/politician arena, not a merchant.  I suppose they could work with them, though.

Looking forward to this one myself. I have a rather unique idea for a job rarely done.

Re: D&D 3.5 story heavy, slightly high powr game ideas

Still looking for someone that could run a game for one of my two ideas.

It would be a wizard/artificer or wizard/bard or possibly wizard/archivist gestalt mix that would focus on summoning and interacting with other planar beings of a dark bend (demons/devils, or possibly genies/djinn or others depending on the setting).

In your character generation thread, you indicate us to build characters at 1st level. Gladiusdei wanted gestalt high level. Are there special character creation rules for us?
