D&D 3.5 story heavy, slightly high power game ideas
I have a couple of game ideas for 3.5 that I'd love to give a try on Rpol. I would be interested in games that are much more political, story heavy games rather than dungeon crawls. I'd also love games that progress to high levels, as my ideas will show.
The two character ideas I have are both gestalt, and I would love a chance to play them into high levels, to take part in the political, story centered arcs that are usually reserved for leaders and high level characters (I've always loved the faerun supplement Power of Faerun, and the various political campaign ideas therein)
My first idea is a dwarf or gnome artificer/wizard (or a similar variation) that would be a crafter and jeweler. I like the idea of playing through the process of becoming a powerful spellcaster, and making oneself indispensable to nobility, royalty, houses, etc. I can see him making fine jewelry for kings and queens, and toys for their children, all while working to defend their kingdoms.
The second idea is similar to the first, but would be quite a bit darker. It would be a wizard gestalt mix that would focus on summoning and interacting with other planar beings of a dark bend (demons/devils, or possibly genies/djinn or others depending on the setting). Possibly a malconvoker or other type, I think it would be interesting to roleplay the struggle of learning magic from this type of source while still retaining his humanity. I don't like fatalistic games, though, So I don't necessarily want it to be a faustian story, with his inevitable fall and destruction being a foregone conclusion.
I tend to like Eberron for the political side of games, since i like the houses and the nations. But I think the summoner type character would also fit well into a place like Luskan or Calimshan in Faerun. If anyone is interested in a running a game like this, either for me solo or for a small group, I'd love to hear from you.
