Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

Okay, I wrote this character up on a whim with a game that got started on another board, and was pleasantly surprised when they were accepted as being a legitimate character!  Enough so that I got hyped for the game, asked a good artist to draw them up...

And then the game collapsed under the weight of player apathy among the better players, and the terrible ones being apparently immune to consequences due to RNGesus blessing them.

Since I despise the idea of wasting money, I'm going to start snapshotting here, and see if I can find a GM willing to take up the premise.  I don't care if it's being newly introduced to another game, or a new solo game, I just want a chance to play a character vastly out of their depth, and in the process of treading water, ends up acquiring ultimate cosmic power in spite of the Grimdark.

At any rate, I've done enough poking around and being coy, here's the character's backstory and basic data, you'll probably see why I haven't had much luck in a hurry.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Medea Altheos is a terrible mistake, the price of hubris without talent--an abomination that walks the galaxy with stolen power.

Of course, if she were to explain herself, she'd point out that this was by no means the plan, she just would have rather not had her soul devourered in another's mad bid to bootstrap their way to ultimate power. Of course, none would believe her, attributing her clumsy efforts to explain herself as merely the ploys of a witch with cunning beyond her years. It's much easier then recognizing that she achieved what many hopeful Sorcerers pray for and work towards by the sheer whims of fate, where others far beyond her skill have spent millenia trying to achieve something similar.

Before all of this though, she was a nameless apprentice--taken in by the "Mighty Sorcerer Korian Altheos, High Magus of the Sunset Ridge" A Legionnaire once of the Luna Wolves in the ancient days of the Imperium, but had been driven away from his fellows due to his unhealthy devotion to the Changer of Ways, and his envy of the spellcraft that the Thousand Sons had achieved due to the implementation of the mighty Rubric drove him from his brothers. He wandered the galaxy, collecting lore, shaking down the isolated Thousand Son Sorcerer for what secrets they had, and eventually developed a new procedure--one of which should assuredly make him a pre-eminent Sorcerer, a New Rubric built to strengthen him far beyond the realms of mortality, and perhaps in doing so, find ascension to something new.

All he required was a powerful Psyker child with the Eyes of the Warp, trained in a specific fashion--then on the eve of their twentieth year, to rend their soul down to dross, and consume it--bolstering their own psychic might and will beyond all sense of reason.

Actually finding a child was hard enough, but fortunately, he was aware of the existence of a suitable place--the world of Kilios within the Trail of Dust--ruled by a mighty Daemon Prince, where great Psykers were often born and fought with each other for glory and might. It would be a fine place for him to gain the suitable sacrifice. He arrived, paid tribute to the local Prince to gain the right to join the conflicts, and carved out his territory on the land, conducting his research, watching his subjects, and waiting.

It took several centuries before someone who fit the criteria he sought arrived--the child was born with the blue and violet eyes that his research suggested to meet the criteria, and more importantly, she was quickly determined to have the potential to be Psi-Active. He seized her from her parents, secreted her in his citadel--and begun the preparations. Imbuing her with extensive knowledge on warpcraft, numerology, and the history of the galaxy as told by one of the great and terrible Traitors of the Heresy. He made excellent progress, her powers awoke early, and developed rapidly--still no match for him of course, but he couldn't help but feel pride over the progress of his apprentice.

Unfortunately, not everything was going to plan--as the young Medea's power and skill grew, so did her awareness of the situation at hand. The knowledge of spellcraft and ritual allowing her to make connections--and her own foresight confirming the circumstances. She would surely die if she did not act--and while she was a dutiful apprentice, that didn't mean she had no sense of self-preservation. Under the auspices of advancing her studies, she made use of her master's libraries, sifting through his grimories, and piecing together the ritual he intended to use--and then cross referencing her guesses to devise a counterspell. She didn't have the full story--he wasn't that silly, and she wasn't going to risk him just killing her offhand or accelerating his timetable, but he was detached enough from most affairs that he didn't notice.

Of course, if she had more time to grow in power and skill, she might have pulled this off without a hitch and gained a reputation as a cunning young arcanist in the making, rather then her current, somewhat more awkward one--but her twentieth year dawned while she was still working out the details, and she was led to the ritual chamber, tied down in the center, and had no choice but to make use of what she had, in the hopes of avoiding death.

The good news is that she managed to avoid dying! The counterspell was absolutely successful--instead, her master was the one who perished in the roils of the warp and the laughter of gods and daemons. What wasn't quite expected was that the spell had instead reversed it's effect. Where once it would have taken her carefully molded and practiced spirit, flayed it down, and used it to augment another's, instead, she simply ended up consuming the power and nature of one of the Galaxy's Ultimate Soldiers, acquiring the organs and mighty of a Space Marine, as the power of the Warp and the amsement of the gods paved over the genetic and biological differences.

She awoke clad in reshaped ceramite plate, stronger then she had ever imagined... And surrounded by the personal guard of the Daemon Prince--clad in chains and looking up at the visage of the ruler of Kilios. He stared at her, expression unreadable for a time, as though communing with his own master--before ultimately nodding.

He declared her as Medea Altheos, successor of Korian and his estate--Lord Sorcerer of Kilios and adopted daughter of the Legions... In the same breath, he also turned around and fined her in the stead of her "Father", claiming the entirety of the estate into his own demesne for "Failure to properly schedule one's own spellcraft, without even having the decency to succeed at it". All that she was left with was her "Father's" own personal wargear, with the remainder seized, and herself exiled for a period "Not Exceeding Ten Years".

She was carted up onto the next passing ship, and given the relative "Freedom" of the galaxy in the meantime, having nothing more then a barely understood body, prodigious psychic might, and the wargear off her back. That, and the stigma of being a complete abomination to the pride of the Space Marine Legions after all, which may be something of a barrier to the normal path of gainful power accumulation...

Name: Medea Altheos
Character Concept in a Nutshell: Former Waifish Apprentice, turned Super Soldier through Forbidden Magic.
Race: Chaos Space Marine (Wha?)
Archetype: Sorcerer

Game Rating: I don't really care, I'm not looking for anything X rated in particular though, as that's not my priority.
Game Feel:  Dark Comedy, walking the Path of Glory largely by instinct, preparation, and trying not to get caught up in the swing of things.  A more straight game is also acceptable, though I'm not looking for an arbitrary "Froth at mouth and be a supervillain who's also entirely counterproductive"

Thank you all for your time and attention, I hope to hear back from someone soon!

Bumping this, had one taker, but it looked like it sort of fell apart before it really got off the ground, as these sorts of things often do.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

I've suggested you to the GM of one of the games I play on here. TBH, another psyker(ansd a space marine one at that!) is the last thing we need,  but the character is interesting, and she'd probably fit well, so I'll see what he says.

I'm sure I could probably hijack one of the artist's other renditions if need be, but I'd rather get Medea in somewhere.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

Welp, after many months of internet hiatus and lack of ability to RPOL, I would LOVE to do something with Black Crusade. After getting my last character dying from thread apathy sickness, it would be grand to play again.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

I may be able to take this up. (emphasis on may)

I've experience with most of the 40k RPGs and a little experience GMing, though not GMing the 40k RPGs sadly.
I'd love to run a game or two (I prefer small groups) though I have a few questions for you all first.

1)  Are any of you experienced with GMing 40k RPGs?  In my past experiments with this I had issues with deciding on balance in combat, I could use some advice as I go along.

2)  Who would be wanting to play a human and who would be a CSM?  I've heard that balancing a mixed party is difficult so possibly having a group of humans and a group of CSM would be best.

3)  What type of stories/game are each of you looking for?

As I said, I may not be able to do something, but depending on your answers I may be inspired to do it.

...As long as you don't mind a rookie GM.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

I'm a fair hand with the system, I'm just not mentally suited to be a good GM, sadly, but I'll provide as much advice as you need if it gets me a game!

Most of your other questions have answers in my original character post thing.

In reply to NotTheRedWire (msg # 17):

In short:
Preferably human characters who have recently fallen to chaos alternatively one from my own warband http://fredrikslicer.deviantar...-bloodless-509053321

Game wise heavily focused around the characters with action set pieces to keep the pace up and add variety. To be more specific games where you start with very little and then in a sandbox esque way work yourself up through very varied adventure has an appeal.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

I'm okay with starting from the bottom, I just want a Chaos game where I'm not basically cutting myself off at the knees for not playing a bog-standard frothing lunatic or zealot.

For all that they claim "FREEDOM! OF WHATEVER!" Chaos tends to gravitate towards very cookie-cutter characters eventually.  I'd rather avoid that if I can.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

I'm a big fan of unorthodox characters, and I hate the one dimensional characters that BC tends to encourage.

Depending on what the others say I could always run a solo game for you, Alectai, and then one for all the others if your desires for the game don't mix.

Will be fun doing a "GRINdark" game for once.

Re: Black Crusade: MAXIMUM HERESY (Solo or Group)

I've wanted to play a Psyker who went to chaos just to be able to live. Perhaps he became obsessed with knowledge after but not because he was this immediate "Murder everyone" personality. Perhaps he went to chaos because he feared the Imperium would have just sacrificed him to the Emperor rather than let him live?

Something like that, or a Heretek for nearly the same reasons. So I think either a newly formed warband or a solo game with characters getting the chance to CHOOSE to form together or not would be cool.

Interesting character Alectai, reminds me of some of the wierder ones I have done in the past.

RedWire, are you doing up a game? If so, I have a last survivor of a lost Chapter whose Pact makes him fertile (and interested) looking fo a home.

I do plan to start a game or two (Would prefer to keep CSM and Heretics separate for ease of balance), unfortunately it is currently so hot that my brain is melting, so I'll only be getting things rolling when I can form cohesive thought again.

Would also like to hear back from a few more of the hopefuls in this thread.
