D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

Hi,

I'm looking for as the topic states, I'm looking for a 3.5 D&D newbie friendly game.  I'm relatively new to the game, and I'd like to learn and explore more.  So far, what I've played I enjoyed.

I'm looking for a small game, possibly 4-5 players (if that), which focuses on group unity and interaction.  I'd prefer if the game had a balanced mix of characterization, intrigue, combat, and downtime.  I'm not familiar with any of the canon settings or locations, so it doesn't matter to me if it's a canon setting or the GM's creation.  It also doesn't matter to me if we run a preexisting campaign or something new.

I would appreciate if the game moved at a decent pace, but I know that's as dependent upon the players as it is on the GM.  I would suggest a minimum posting of 3-4 times per week.

I would like a GM who has the patience to work with my limited knowledge, but also introduce enough challenge that it'd be enjoyable to more experienced players.  I'd also like a GM who can keep the game organized and moving forward.

I would like to explore as much about the game as possible, including magical items and as wide a level range as possible (granted that will depend on how long the game lasts).

Feel free to rMail me and I will attempt to check this thread frequently.

Thank you.

In reply to ErionAmkiir (msg # 1):

Hello Erion!
Have you found a DM already?
Otherwise if there is 3-4 more newbie players, I would be happy to DM a beginner game with an old school scenario from the advance D&D time adapted to 3.5 edition.

I'd be up for giving it a try, though hopefully it isn't made for 1st level folks!

Dzubak it will start at 1st level if I'm the DM. That's the all point of a beginner game.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

Arthenius, I'm still looking.  An old-school campaign sounds fun, and I don't mind starting at level 1 and gradually advancing, it'd actually give me a better understanding of the game, instead of just mid to late levels.

Not sure if there's any other newbie players interested.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

I'm relatively new to D&D, at least the table top versions.  As my Uncle gave me some old D&D Computer games a couple years back.  Ice Wind Dale Series, Baldur's Gate Series and Neverwinter Nights.  I had a blast playing them so I thought I would try finding a game at the game store in my town.  But due to my erratic work and college schedule.  It was hard to get in a steady game.  So I discovered RPOL and have been in a few games, that all seem to fizzle out after starting game play.  So a beginners 1st level game sounds great to me. Arthenius, drop me a rMail to give me a heads up.  When you get ready to open the game to Players.  Thank's!

I've had the same problem.  It seems the D&D games I join simply fizzle before they ever start.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

My game commitments are too vast right now, but I would be all for helping mitigate down time by explaining source material and logistics while the head GM is handling story and rulings on what's not imminently or clearly defined. I would be more of a pop in and out Co-GM, but I'm sure with enough newbies I could lessen the load of having to explain various How-to's to different players in the same day.

If players showing interest has any effect on compelling a GM to make a game, maybe my willingness to help might too. It's worth at least giving it a shot.

As a note, anyone who posts in this thread is welcome to Rmail me with developments should they feel the need. As long as it's germane to this game I'll consider it okay to at least contact me.

I hope you find your GM! Soon I might add. *smiles* Good luck!

Thanks V.

Still looking for a DM.  Not sure if Arthenius is still interested or if there are more players interested in the "beginner" game he spoke about.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

I'm not a beginner at D&D. I do like things simple though as don't like the rules to weigh things down so would be up to join a basic game if one starts.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

As for Co-GMing, I can probably bump that up to adventure writing if that helps a prospective GM feel comfortable. I could do things like "Goblins have entered a town and are attracting a lot of attention. These goblins are actually a team of illusionist con-artists trying to provoke adventurers to fight them and then thwart that by showing they have magic."

That could be one or two "Sessions" or five or six scenes for a GM that they could take and run with, with as much or as little alteration as they'd like.

I just can't commit to posting week in and week out. Which is why I don't volunteer to GM it by myself. I can oil the gears though, and help the game move a bit quicker. I've done this in games I've played in before just to keep things moving, which has elevated me to Co-GM on such occasions. I can certainly see doing this, and just not playing, in a newbie friendly atmosphere.

Maybe this helps. Maybe not.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

Still looking for a DM.  I wouldn't mind joining an existing game, it doesn't have to be "beginner focused".  I just would like to know that the DM would be willing to work with me and realize that mastery of the system would be missing, in my case.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

I'd be interested in playing as well. Being that my game experience is pretty limited, I am not sure I could GM a game but I will consider it!

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

Hey guys!
I was out of town those last weeks. Are you still interested in a beginner game with D&D 3.5 rule system?

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

Yes, I'm still interested in a beginner friendly game.  While I say "beginner friendly", I don't want something that is overly simplistic or "watered down".  I would like as much content as possible with a gradual learning curve.

Re: D&D 3.5 newbie friendly game

Don't worry, the module I selected is beginner friendly but definitely not adventurer friendly ;)
So Who else is interested so that I can know how many players?

I'll create later a game and send you two and jacob a link. Then we will discuss in the game ooc thread your characters. I plan a game with 5 players for the moment.
