Burning Wheel?

I've been sitting on the burning wheel books a while, but never got the chance to actually play them. I'm not really confident enough in my knowledge of the system to run it, but I'd be really interested in creating a player for one. I'd be cool with solo, group, sandbox, pretty much however a GM wanted to do it, as long as the plot sounded interesting. (Chances are I'm gonna dig the plot, I'm not super picky)

So, if anyone is running a game with this system or wants to start one, I'd be up for it. :)

Re: Burning Wheel?

I've heard of this game but never played it. I'd be interested in see how it works either as a player or a lurker.

Re: Burning Wheel?

Gagh! Temptation!
I have Burning Wheel Gold. I've wanted to give it a try for ages, but it's been such 'ages' I'd need to re-read it to be in any place to run anything.

Re: Burning Wheel?

I've never heard of Burning Wheel Gold, but I have the revised editions of the Character Burner and Core. If there aren't too many changes/you'd be willing to help out with transfer I'd definitely be down with playing whatever version you have. :)

Re: Burning Wheel?

I think it's more a compilation than anything else, but I shall check that out tomorrow and get back to y'all.

Re: Burning Wheel?

This is why I should check the 'Looking for GM' page more often.

The GOld edition is bit different from the revised, the character burning working slightly differently as some of the options were changed.

Re: Burning Wheel?

Are you offering to run, Thud? If so I'd definitely be up for that. :)

If you're referring to perdido, I haven't heard from him.

Re: Burning Wheel?

That's unfortunate. I was actually hoping to find someone to run it. I mean, I could. It seems the only way I'd get to play a BW game on this site >.>

Re: Burning Wheel?

Sorry for the lack of reply folks, had some 'RL' stuff sneak up and bite me in the ass.

Yeah 'Burning Wheel Gold' is The Burning Wheel and Character Burner 'clarified and updated'.

I'd still be interested in running something, at some point, just that with a recent bereavement, I can't give any kind of time frame at the moment, although the distraction, would sure be good!

Re: Burning Wheel?

I'd also like to try Burning Wheel. I've played some Torchbearer and Mouse Guard, and I have Burning Wheel Gold and the Monster, Magic and Adventure Burners, but haven't had time/excuse to dig in to the system.

Re: Burning Wheel?

I am also interested in Burning Wheel, but similarly don't feel up to running it yet.  I have been sitting on some Luke Crane stuff for years and am just now starting to try it out.  I have a fairly new Mouse Guard game going with my real life group.

So, I might be willing to run a Torchbearer game if folks are interested.  It is kind of middle-ground in the line of complexity from MG to BW.  But it is a very specific kind of game about wastrels and vagabonds who drag themselves into dark dangerous caves and ruins to find a couple coins to scratch together (at least at level 1).  As such, it is very much an homage to early fantasy RPGs and so is hardwired to be a dungeon-crawler focused on resource management and similar themes.

If that sounds cool, I would likely run Middle Earth set game of that type.

Re: Burning Wheel?

Cool, that's one who might Torchbearer it, and you have played, which is great.  That's more experience than me.  If I had two more for a Middle Earth Torchbearer I would likely try it out.

Re: Burning Wheel?

Here's a Torchbearer game that's just starting up. I think the GM is still waiting on a couple more participants:
