High Action Martial Arts Adventure

Despite being busy with a couple games of my own, I'd really love the chance to participate in a game as a player. I've been particularly craving something of a fantastic, kung-fu action game. Something inspired by the "Dragon Ball" or "Mortal Kombat" franchises, blending the fantastic with fighting action.

I'm interested in systems like Legends of the Wulin, Burn Legend, Tianxia, Wushu, and probably a few others. I'm also open to some suggestions, though, so if there's an interested storyteller willing to take on something like this, I'd love to hear from you.

If that's the case, I'd appreciate an rmail. I'm more likely to see that soon than I am a reply to this thread.

Tossing my hat in for more interest. Would also love to see a game like this.

As I recall, Street Fighter had a cool tabletop RPG, but I think the styles were fairly limited.

I'd like to give this a bump in hopes of attracting interest from any potential GMs.

Re: High Action Martial Arts Adventure

Hello!

I'm not a potential GM unfortunately but I am also looking for a game that sounds similar to what you are looking for, so perhaps we can join forces. This is my wanted GM thread here: link to a message in this forum.

My suggestion to you is the rpg Legend of the 5 Rings, which is set in a fictional Asian universe called Rokugan. It's heavily Japanese, but the action takes place in a divinely guided empire (called Rokugan), sort of like the Chinese dynasties, instead of the warring states that Japan is more famous for. It has all sorts of other Asian influences as well and is based on the concepts of Bushido and Honor, which is very central to the rules. I think it would be the type of martial arts game you would be looking for.

I think the game is worth looking up, and I know a sample of the rules was released for free because of Free RPG Day. It's a brief published adventure for the game called Legacy of Disaster and you can find some basic rules in there. Otherwise, you'll need to get a copy of the Core Rules at least for more advanced options.

If you are interested and I find a game, maybe you can join us as well.

Re: High Action Martial Arts Adventure

I'm familiar with Lot5R, but it's pretty distinctly not what I'm looking for right now, at least not with this thread. Despite the heavy elements of fantasy, it's a far more grounded sort of game, and the tenets of the samurai story that its focused around are definitely distinct from the sort of kung-fu story I'm interested in here.

Re: High Action Martial Arts Adventure

So more close to the Three Kingdoms period in China?
Sound s like some of the fluff from the book of 9 swords could help for inspiration.
I have to completely overhaul the monk game I have before I can throw my hat into the ring
I have no idea when I'll finish that.

Personally I would love to play in a Tianxia game. Sadly I don't have the time to run such a game at this time.
