Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

I know 4e fairly well, as I run it. But I have no problems with using a different version of the rules.

In reply to Voip (msg # 4):

I'd suggest 5e, though the way you talk about mechanics sounds ... something. Shadowrun isn't exactly the lightest system in existence.

Perhaps starting with what you have in mind would better prompt an edition.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

VOIP, if you own Corporate Enclaves, there is a reality show run in L.A. that is centered around runners and their missions.  Given how the entire Los Angeles shadows work, it would easily fit a pink mohawk style game in any edition but I personally believe it would be very effective in 4th or 5th.

Incidentally, if anyone has ideas about running 2050 era with fifth edition, I'd like to know.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

Wasn't there a fourth edition book that showed how to play 4e in 2050, probably could take a few ideas from that to get 5e to work in 2050s. Also, I would love to play in a Pink Mohawk game, I never got the chance since when I started playing 3e everybody seemed to play black trenchcoat style.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

I've been thinking of starting a kind of shadowrun collective for a while now, the way shadowrun works, while you can form teams, it's more like having a roster, you never need all 10 guys... probably. and the samurai is a waste of money on a hacking run, but yes, this is a more fun, action oriented style I'd like to play, I prefer 4th over 5th edition but I'm with the first one, past character creation and facilitating awesomeness, story and action and fun playing should come first.

I'm interesting in starting or joining something too, if I start though, more than 1 GM.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

I've been giving a thought to starting up GMing here again, and I'd be up to running a pink mohawk flavoured SR game.  You said in your OP that you don't want 1, 2 or 3.  Which leaves 4(or 20th) or 5.  Do you have a preference as to which?

4 has an advantage in having a full line of books, 5 is missing the matrix rulebook.  But it should be easy to port over anything we need.

I'd prefer fifth, with some ported material if possible (Arsenal vehicle mods, missing shapeshifter rules, etc), but don't have any major problems sticking with fourth. (ty for the pm; I was about to reply when I noticed you had posted here)

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

In reply to Novocrane (msg # 16):

Okay, we can do fifth edition.

So, Pink Mohawk.  Over the top action and explosions.  I'm drawing inspiration from Terminator, Robocop, Escape from New York, Quinten Tarantino movies, Smoking Aces, Chow Yun Fat movies, the Immortals, Bubblegum Crisis, Akira and Blade Runner.  Is that the sort of mashup you're thinking of when you think Pink Mohawk?

The idea I have is to base the story in Boston.  CFD (I believe that's the right acronym, at work so I cannot check) is just starting to raise its ugly head.  And there are some rough times coming up.  If you've read about Shadowrun Online (recently renamed to Shadowrun Chronicles), and have seen the upcoming crossover book in upcoming releases, then you'll have an idea where I intend to take this.

Sound good?

I'm willing to take on the folks who've replied in this thread, and I can help out with character creation for folks who've not yet gotten the 5e books.  The core book IS on sale for 19.99 on DriveThruRPG (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com), which is a screaming deal.

Also, are players alright with an adult game, or would you prefer mature?

For a moment I thought you meant Immortal, but yeah, sounds good. Adding Black Lagoon to that list seems slightly redundant.

quote:
Mature = mature themes, strong language, drug use, and/or extensive violence
Adult = Mature + graphic and detailed sexual or violent content

Would you use anything that requires adult? I haven't needed to.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

Hah, no, I meant this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113394

And no, I have never had to write out a scene that stretched Mature out into Adult.  However, there IS the whole 'rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it' idea.

But I can roll with Mature.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

Sort of, and / or almost.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egG7fiE89IU

The game intro says "PUNK!", but the group says "low key", "suits", "fresh flowers", and "shrine maiden". Not trying to bust anyone's chops, but it's missing the ethos & imagery I'm after.

Maybe bringing in Street Scum priority or SumTo8 would shake things up, if anyone else is willing to kick the concept around? Seattle Barrens are easy to play around with as a known location, but I wouldn't mind somewhere like Lagos (Feral Cities) or anywhere else that has an interesting write-up.

Interested! for 4th edition, I have a four armed changeling ganger who wields two machine-pistols and two vibro-swords at the same time. Pink mohawk enough? :3

Not sure if anybody is still alive here. I messaged Novocrane a few times, and came up with a pink mohawk game. If anybody who said they'd enjoy it wants, the link is below. I'll be happy to take all-comers.

Re: Pink Mohawk Shadowrun

So after some discussion, I'm still looking for a game where the players help emphasise not just that they're runners who have been dealt a poor hand in life or live somewhere that's worse than a modern day middle class neighbourhood, but are a bunch of crass, violent, rebellious, and reckless (at the best of times) misfits. SINless who had to join a street gang or syndicate to survive growing up, whether or not they're still a member. Individuals who don't balk at standing out in a crowd, who go for the elaborate nano glow tattoos, 8 inch fibre optic mohawk, case mod cyberarms, neon-lit gas mask, ripped & hand-customised clothing, etc.

Then there's a choice of two paths.

A - a group of metahumans or metavariants (negative metagenetic qualities optional, but not changelings, shifters, infected, or metasapients) with punk overtones, generally capable but not specialised or well connected enough to make moving out of a bad neighbourhood a real option.
Low rating fake SINs abound, and most available gear is either scavenged / built from available parts, or "fell off the back of a truck" black market quality.

B - similar to the first, but everyone is bringing quirky choices and crazy ideas to the table. (character options are wide open) High powered game where non-combat action is cinematic; "assaulting a corporate board meeting by ziplining through a plate glass window, firing a heavy machinegun one handed as you go" kind of thing.

Either would work with Priority / Karma / Life Modules of 5e, but the latter might fit better in the as-written craziness of 4e, where the availability of armour stacking, regeneration, etc give the characters the right amount of survivability to not die mid-stunt.
