Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

An... Interesting concept. Let's see how viable it is:

Barbarian: Warriors for a tribe, either out on a hunt or at war with a neighboring tribe.
Bard: A troupe of travelling entertainers.
Cleric: ...Depends on whether or not everyone worships the same deity.
Druid: A budding (pun!) order of druids acting as champions for nature.
Fighter: A squad of soldiers either making war or keeping the peace.
Monk: Good like finding one person who wants to play a Monk, let alone an entire party.
Paladin: A knightly order ready to fight as champions of justice.
Ranger: Much like the Fighter, but more scout/patrol than charge/defend.
Rogue: Band of thieves and/or assassins.
Sorcerer: Sorcerer's don't let themselves well to grouping by type. Maybe if they were all of the same bloodline, they could be heirs to some ancient power that they need to work together to claim.
Wizard: Arcane academy.

Surprisingly workable from a story standpoint, barring a few exceptions. The questions becomes, though: Which class can survive being a party unto itself?

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

Really, any class can.  It's all in the various character builds.

I see. It does make a lot more sense that way.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

I am so, so down if we can get an all bard party going. Like, I love 'all X class' parties, but I especially love all bard parties. I'll keep an eye on this, either way though.

My personal hope is for an all summoner party, but I'm down with anything.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

I'm in an all wizard game with differing specialists...it works pretty well. It is an 'academy graduates' style game. We have a summoner in the bunch...we have not hit any combat yet.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

I want to propose something like that:

All psions!
Skill user/tracker? Seer
Raw, brutal melee power? Egoist
melee power + utility? Shaper
Party face? Telepath
Blaster, disable device? Kineticist
Mobility fightr, escape key? Nomad.

All cleric might give a bigger diversity, especially with different gods.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

This sounds very interesting, especially all Clerics (can vary a lot) or all Bards (fun and also a lot of variance). All Wizards could also work.

All Witches also sounds like fun (playing a coven) but it will either get stomped really fast or sleepwalk through everything.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

I have thought about this a lot too. I like the idea of all clerics.

One game I would like to play in is a knights of the round table with the option being either:

1) Restricted to only Fighters
2) Restricted to only Paladins
3) Restricted to only Fighters, Paladins, or Clerics.

Plus one mage, for obvious reasons, but maybe Merlin would just play an NPC support role at Camelot.

I also think this would work well as a E6 game.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

Gestalt is another possibility I've actually done before, where everyone took Pally as the other half of their gestalt.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

So long as everyone is allowed to use different archetypes within the same class, this could actually be interesting.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

That's an idea I've given up long ago, because none of my tabletop rpg friends were interested.
Nice to see that there are at last people who find the idea attractive.

For barbarians, for example, a viking (ok, Ulfen) group out for fame and glory; or a group of Mwangi tribespeople trying to save the tribe from some threat.

I'll keep this thread in mind, both as a player and as a potential GM.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

By the way, monk:
A group of martial artists from a monastery somewhere in the Dragon Empires.

Let's say, the Monastery of the Four Elements, specially for Ifrit, Oread, Undine, Sylph and Suli students. The country is invaded and there is a strict martial law, and any non-invader wielding a weapon is summarily executed.

I'd vote for that, Greenvoid.  In fact, it sounds rather like a lot of fun.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

When I started here on rpol, I looked for solo games because of the speed and intensity, in a kind of "GM exchange programme": solo game for solo game. The idea was that I create a group of characters, playing them all, this way I can experience different types of characters with the above mentioned speed and intesity. In the end, I made up 5 characters, all druids in a swamp, a full druid circle.
A lizardpeople twins, and 3 marshland elves, working together for practical reasons (an orc invasion). A level 4 druid elf, a sorcerer 2 / druid 2 elf, an oracle 2 / druid 2 elf, a druid 4 lizardwoman, and a ranger 3 / druid 1 lizardman.

I found a guy who liked the idea :), but went offline for an indefinite time, unfortunately. :(

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

An all Bard game did run on here like 6 months ago. It was in 3.5 and died after a few weeks. I was apparently the only one that knew we should have been metal band.

Or too keep it 'interesting' and possibly short. Everyone is a commoner and the use magic device skill isn't allowed.

In reply to Sir Swindle (msg # 22):

I played a metal bard once.  It was in a post-apocalyptic d&dish game.  He was an Elf named Hans who summoned his drums from the ground.

I'd be into this idea of it were all wizards or all gesalt.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

I like the concept of a single class on one side of the gestalt, either all monks, clerics, wizards, paladins, etc, especially if every member of the group is a member of a single organization, too.  Small group of 3-5 seems like it'd be perfect.

Re: Pathfinder: All One Class

This sounds really great! I'm intrigued by the concept and would be interested in discussing what this might look like.

I see a couple of viable options. First would be a monastery setting. Not sure what the action would look like here. Probably highly political.

Second idea is a carnival troupe of bards. Lots of potential here for going into towns and finding trouble. This could also be fun as the fantasy metal band.

Third idea is a city-based thieves guild setup.

I'm open to other ideas as well.

Here's a link: link to another game

We'll see if we can make this a go.
