DND

A friend on the boards has talked me into slimming down my book writing to pick up a game with him. We are looking for a GM willing to venture into a pair of brothers who had been subjected to a test of a Long Death cult. Effectively, MoD would have won the challenge and wound up as a skull, undead, and I would be running around as a necromancer.

Take in note that we will surprise you. Evil for the sake of evil is a waste. Think of us as Dr. Doom kinda people. "We do this because none other are fitting for leadership."

We are hoping for dnd 3.5 - pathfinder. Mod is asking for access to a few things in psionics.

Of the two of us, MoD is most steady having ran a game on here for 10+ years without fail. I grow thin at times when I publish a new book, however, MoD will be there to keep me in line.

Re: DND

It seems to be rather hard to find a GM who is willing to tolerate necro characters lately...

Re: DND

No wonder. "Evil" parties are somehow always a pest in the eyes of GMs, as they often think only about themselves, and ready to betray the party at the first occasion. While morals would hold back good-neutral aligned characters from killing everyone, what's in for evil characters? Or are you playing a non-evil Necromancer?

Things might be easier if they were compelled to be together for one reason or an another. And I don't mean like they are stronger together, because it will lose it's worth in a few levels, while the players would most likely intrigue against each other on the way. Would fit to a WoD Vampire game, but not really for DnD dungeoneering. One method would be to have players forced to not to harm each other. For example, they are all undead under a Lich King's command, a party of Death Knight, Shadow Priest, Evil Rogue, Necromancer, with some free will, but not enough to go against their lord's will, or each other. Then they could go down in dungeons, and hoard resources for the Dragon Queen Lich King. I totally stole this idea from WoW. xD

Also, most plot hooks and stories, campaign modules would be useless, and putting the GM to have to invent his own, what also puts more tedious task to the wanna-be GMs.

Re: DND

What is a Long Death cult? A quick Google search didn't turn up any results that appeared relevant.

I love me some D&D 3.5. Conceptually, I like Pathfinder, but I find that it's too different from 3.5 for me to really enjoy.

Are you looking for a game for just the two of you or would you open it up to more players? And what sorts of stories are you looking for? Do you want intrigue, redemption, action, dungeon-delving? And I also would like to know what level you guys would like to play at.

Re: DND

The concept was originally something I read somewhere but now cannot remember/find the source. The story was about a pair of brothers who trained in the magical arts. Then, to graduate, they both entered a tower. A week later one brother came out holding the other brother's polished skull.

The real kicker, though, was that the surviving brother was the one that failed the trial.

So, it would essentially be two players playing two halves of one character. The living brother played by Mortannis as a living Necromancer. The skull being played by me. I would essentially be acting as a familiar/intelligent magic item though it would be easiest to classify me as an immobile, Tiny undead spellcaster.

To play it off like I'd like it, I'd need a few homebrew feats. The first being a metamagic feat that let me cast a spell as a full round action then transfer the charge as a swift action to the living brother, who can then release the charge as a swift action. The other would be one that would let him cast spells from my spell slots (almost as though I were a staff.) it would use up both of our turns.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for evil, we don't necessarily need to be evil. The test was evil, to be sure, but the living brother could well be neutral... and even if I were evil, I'd still be more or less bound to my non-evil brother (so it would be the equivalent of a non-evil player possessing an evil intelligent magic item). I've actually played as a magic item in a campaign before (I was an evil magic sword in a mostly good/neutral party) and it was loads of fun :P

I think a game with a full party (counting the two of us as one) would be best. As far as stories are concerned, I like games with a good bit of backstory, a compelling overarching plot, ect. The best games for me is like an interactive adventure novel. Mortannis is more the cerebral type, thinking outside the box and studying on metaphysics.

-------------------

I like Pathfinder and 3.5 both. I've blended the two before and found that they work more or less interchangeably.

Re: DND

That is the other payer =D

My character would be lawful neutral to start out. But dont mistake the end goal. I aim for vampire and I will do everything I can to get it upgrade. If we go for 10 years and I end up as a dread vampire lord, I would be grinning ear to ear.

Both MoD and I have outlasted GMs before. You will have rock solid players.

Re: DND

Mmmm... I think it would work better if we found a way for the skull to be an actual character instead of a magic item. Why couldn't you cast magic spells yourself instead of transferring the charge to another character?

This also makes me want to play around with the Taint rules from Heroes of Horror. Would you guys be up for that? And I'm totally OK with an Evil aligned party, as long as everyone works together as a party. I love intra-party conflict, so I'm OK with some of that happening, as long as it doesn't stop the game.

Re: DND

An idea would be to work with it like Morti from the game PlaneScape Torment. Morti would fly around and still did things but he was effectively just a skull.

One of the ideas I had was to make staves and rods that had a port or slot in the top. That way Mod would be using them directly just as I would.

The end goal of my item crafting would be to make suit of animated armor for him to pilot. There are tons of ideas abound for all this =)

Re: DND

I'm going to need some time to put together a story. I've already got a friend who's interested, so there are three players. Hopefully I'll have something put together in a week.

Re: DND

So, I've been thinking about the story and I think it'd be cool if you guys worked for Vol in Eberron. Is Eberron ok for the setting?

Re: DND

Lol, I just made a necromancer for Vol, he is aiming to get up to dread vampire lord of the dead some day.

We both know some ebberon but we are not masters of the lore like some.

I'll create the game and get you guys the link.

Re: DND

link to another game

I run a mature game and would have no problem with undead party members.

one issue - i have house rule that states that undead CAN NOT be psions.

if i miss read your character concept, or you can work with that than come see if you can work with my setting.
