Looking for a nation based game.

I was in a freeform game a while back that involved controlling a nation. It was pretty fun, and involved negotiations, trade agreements, and such. The DM was in charge of dictating how much you produced, what you discovered exploring, and he would even declare the results of a battle between two factions.

I was in charge of a high technology, almost no magic nation, and I was habitually dealing with magical nations that were a few steps behind me in technology. I'm interested in finding a game where I can play that nation again.

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

I don't know of any GM that would be capable of running this type of game, but I would be greatly interested in taking part is such a game.

If any GM's stop by here, don't hesitate to mail me too!

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

I have to agree with the previous poster: as a GM I would never be able to run a game like this, but as a player I would love to be part of one. I wish you luck finding a new game for your nation and if you do find something like this I hope that they will drop me a line as well.

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

I would love to play in this as well. It's a great idea. In fact, I think I might get one going. When I do, I'll be sure to email all of you guys! In fact, we should find someplace to discuss this. If you wanted one made, what setting(s) would you guys like? Fantasy, modern, futuristic?

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

Well, the original game I was in had each civilization be whatever they wanted. I played a Modern civilization with next to no magic, but there were at least three other players playing fantasy medieval civilizations, and one or two playing futuristic.

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

Basically, DM has the final say, you have to keep track of everything you're doing, and you can only attempt to do the things you want. DM tells you how successful you were.

Oh. And no Godmodding.

Hopefully a budding GM will stop by this thread and answer our wishes!

Wow, that's a heady-tonic for an idea.  Sounds pretty amazing.  I have done low-level nation games using Windows - but, I focused on fantasy.

Just how in-depth did you like/want this game to be?

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

I mostly focus on roleplaying out my country's reactions to scenarios. I'd like for the game to be balanced. The last game I was in had it in their heads that because I was only a "Modern" nation, I didn't have the firepower to stand against a sci-fi nation, or the defenses to withstand a fantasy nation.

Personally, I think that's bullshit. I think a system might be necessary, but not mandatory, and I don't want any drastic changes to my nation because the DM's taking pity on me.

Sorry if this doesn't answer your question, but I'm not quite sure what you're asking.

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

Attempting to run a campaign along these lines, using The Window system for both the ruling line and the realm's capabilities. In the setting I'm using there's both technology and magic, some fantasy elements and some steam-punk ones.

It's hard. Really hard. I've paused the campaign for now whilst I rework some of the underlying mechanics and structure (and because real life).

If folks have questions, happy to explore how I've found setting things up.

Re: Looking for a nation based game.

I love the window.  For myself - I am going to be running my own home-brewed game (will be posting shortly.)

It is Fantasy/Medieval, so that may not be your cup of tea Ace Sorou - that is why I was asking.

I've never played that system, but I'd be willing to learn it. I'm more interested in the political intrigue aspect of nation games.

I don't want to play a fantasy nation, but I think it'd be pretty cool to see a more modern nation with no magic interact with more fantasy based nations. That's what intrigued me with the original game.
