JAGS Wonderland

I cannot tell you how much I would love to play a game in this setting. Not necessarily the system (JAGS), it could be guided freeform, or something easy to pick up and learn (for free), but I love the setting and premise so much. The problem is, nobody else seems to. And I don't know how to entice people into running it, or at least helping to run it, since most have either never heard of it, or don't care enough to run a game.

For those who don't know, JAGS Wonderland is a surreal-existential-horror-survival-adventure game set in the modern day (or whenever, really) where the world imagined by Lewis Carrol actually exists, and it wants to kill you. It gets complicated very quickly after that, with multiple levels of reality, different "powers", having to deal with consequences of living in both worlds, changing sizes, and so on. Everything is available for free on JAGS' website, just do a search and you'll find it.

I cannot GM to save my stupid life, and I really wanna be a player in this endeavor. If someone would like to step up and do most of the heavy-GM-lifting, I could try to co-GM. Might help me get some experience GMing, too.

But I cannot do it without help. Someone? Please? I can pay you in high-fives and hugs. *Beg eyes*

Re: JAGS Wonderland

I wouldn't mind being a co-GM for this endeavor (though I would have to do some more research on the subject). The idea seems interesting enough though. As a note, I live in a little shell known as free-form, but I'm certainly willing to learn about JAGS and how it works if it makes being a GM for this game type a little easier.

Re: JAGS Wonderland

With the exception of the big reveal, which I thought was terrible, this is fairly high on my list of, "settings that no one else is interested in."

I'd be willing to consider it. Though I can say right off the bat it would have an Adult rating and wouldn't be freeform; I'd most likely consider adapting the mechanics from Unknown Armies, obviously with changes to account for the difference in the supernature from UA to Wonderland. As a system it's quick, it's easy, and I like it. That said, it wouldn't be any time soon. First I'd need to go back and refamiliarize myself with the setting, figure out how much work the conversion would be, and then decide if I had a narrative worth offering.

So it's entirely possible you get a better offer well before then.

Re: JAGS Wonderland

Thanks for the interest, guys. :)

Like I said, we don't really need to use JAGS; it could be guided freeform (which I prefer, actually), if people agreed to play it properly, which I'm not concerned about. If Unknown Armies is free to pick up, at least as a PDF, I could take a look at it.

I'm not sure which reveal you're talking about, Metem, unless it's the nature of Chessboard 7, which was meh for me, as well. Though if nothing else, it at least gave players a goal. *Shrug* I'd be happy just shooting barbed wire out of my hands. :P

Re: JAGS Wonderland

That was what I was talking about, and is something I would likely change. As to UA, it is not freely available. The book also wouldn't be needed. The core rules are simple to learn. If freeform is really what you want, then it's not a game I would be GMing; I don't do freeform.

If the system, or the wait while I sit down and look at the work involved, aren't of interest to you then I'll wish you the best of luck, take my hat out of the ring, and return this to the "maybe someday" pile of projects.

Re: JAGS Wonderland

The character creation (and I think basic rules) for UA are available as a preview chapter PDF on the Atlas Games website.

Re: JAGS Wonderland

I am so completely down for this. I think JAGS is a pretty awful system, but JAGS Wonderland is incredibly cool as a setting.
