D&D 5E Solo or small group as a Necromancer

5E is the first edition to get Necromancy right, and I desperately want to play a Necromancer in a D&D 5E game. Ideally, this would be starting at level 6 or higher, since that's when Necromancers actually get the ability to create undead minions, and would be either solo or a small group, preferrably in a setting where doing so won;t automatically make him a kill-on-sight for some reason.

I'd love a chance to have a heroic necromancer that is raising an army (literally raising, heheh) to take on some bigger, even greater evil. After all, adventurers are going into dungeons and clearing out unwanted monsters anyway. Why not recycle all those dead critters and their equipment for some useful purpose?

Any takers? i'd be entirely psyched to do this.

I love that idea, I really have to get the book and then I could join (would also like to be a Necromancer)

Re: D&D 5E Solo or small group as a Necromancer

Alright, I saw the title and it immediately lead me down the following road for a concept:

Many of the graves on the Isle of Sorrows are so old that not even the elves know who lies there.  For countless centuries, the dead of the five kingdoms that border the lake where the Isle rests have been sent there to be eternally guarded by the Grey Wardens who made sure that the bodies lay undisturbed.

That is, until two decades ago.  There was an... incident on the Isle and a rift opened in the center to the Negative Energy Plane.  The Grey Wardens disappeared, though some say they now stalk the massive graveyard as undead beings of great power.  Worst of all, however... are the necromancers.

Drawn to the Isle by the Negative Energy pouring out of the rift and the promise of easy power, dozens of Necromancers have carved out small kingdoms of bone and flesh amid the myriad graves.  You are such a Necromancer, or you have joined the cohort of one and now seek to build your own forces and seize the resources of the Isle.  Do you hope to close the rift?  Do you hope to rip it open all the way?  The answers to those questions are up to you...

I would be looking for a high post rate game, level 6 to start with 2-4 PCs (ideally, at least one non-necromancer for each necromancer).

Interested?

While I'd leave the necromancy to others, I'd love to play a faithful lieutenant or old friend. Although if the "high post rate" was greater than 1/day it'd be unlikely that I would be able to keep up.

I define "high post rate" as 5-6 per week with low consequences for missing one or two a week.  Stuff happens, after all.

Sounds like fun. I would be in but only have the open source pdf.

I'd definitely be interested swordchucks.

eternaldarkness is right, the necromancers are definitely done well in 5e.  Now you don't have to be a cleric to be the best necromancer (always bugged me).

I'd be very interested in a game like that. While I'd consider the necromancer role myself, I'd be just as happy to leave it to someone else if there was a party with more vested interest. Definitely let me know if this gets off the ground.
