True Blood

Looking for a GM to possibly run a free-form True Blood themed game?

Re: True Blood

What supernatural type would the players be? Or would they play as humans? Also how much of the show would be required for the GM to have seen?

Re: True Blood

Totally didn't see this reply! Woopsie. Well I have only seen up until the 6th season, so I personally wouldn't want to go further than that just in information. You could have seen one episode or a season or have read the books. I would like to have all of the supernatural creatures from the television show in it at least and kind of follow the same guidelines for them as well as in the book, same setting, different characters, etc.

If the GM has only seen one episode I have no problem filling them in, I just don't think I would do a very good job of running/playing in the game and would rather play in it. Also though i would want it to be primarily freeform, I do think a little GM nudging or interference is good!

Re: True Blood

The books and the HBO show are vastly different from each other.  What are you most interested in playing?  There's the basic premise of the setting (supernaturals are real and have gone public).  Then there's the plotline and established characters (because then you have to decide if you're using the cannon from the books, or the derailment that happened in the shows).

Re: True Blood

The books were good, the tv show - ick - I don't think they got the right actors for many of the characters (Sookie for example was described as buxom blonde in the books with a beautiful face - the actress with the gap between her front teeth and nearly flat chest did not work just on the looks department. Northman fit alright, but the Prince of New Orleans, in the books, was a young teenager looking woman. The one in the show looked to be in her 30's and they totally left out her right hand man, who was a big player in several of the books).

Sorry diverging from plot lines - of the concept, It works well if you have a versicle enough GM (or multiple GMs who can work well together).
I personally would go with a VtM type game concept (world of darkness) just for character creation rules, but over all plot would likely be more sandbox 'ish' I think, once you got the stories going.

Re: True Blood

I would probably want to go with the television show then, just because its probably something that more people have seen rather than have read the books. I think that game system works just as you said.

Re: True Blood

Most of the show was based off world of darkness you should look into seeing if some one will do a game like that where the supernaturals are being outed
