oWoD Mage

Hi all

I've rarely bothered with Mage. I've always been more of a Vampire/Werewolf/Changeling kind of player but dabbled briefly with Mage and like the aesthetics but our group never really pursued it.

Is there anyone on here in either established games or for 1-on-1's and the like who'd be willing to show me and teach me the finer points of Mage, the Spheres and what makes Mage fun?

Re: oWoD Mage

Mage is the hardest of the oWoD lines to get right. There are a lot of reasons for that, not least because the system seems to assume a marge level of self-balancing on the part of the players. Otherwise, once Mages hit mid-levels, the system says they can do almost anything.

I love Mage. It's my favourite of the classic lines. But my take on it is decidedly non-standard. I could cobble you together a something, but it would probably not look very much like the books (at least in terms of fluff - the crunch would all be the same).

Is that something you'd be interested in? Do you want to just play a Mage and see what it looks like? Or are you excited about the Ascension War and the Traditions and Horizon Realms and all that sort of thing?

I could maybe do the former, but I'm less enthralled by most of the latter.

Re: oWoD Mage

Just to stick my two-pence in, I too would be all over a Classic Mage game, like... like paradox over a fireball.
Only have revised though.

Re: oWoD Mage

I am also a big oWoD Mage fan.  I can' do much during the summer, but I'd be interested in running or playing something  for this in September, if there is still interest. I'll check back then.

Re: oWoD Mage

I find myself in much the same situation as the OP, so I wouldn't mind exploring what Mage is in-game.

Re: oWoD Mage

I would love to try playing a mage. Are there resources online for enough free info to play one though? I know of wiki's, but would that be enough?

Re: oWoD Mage

In reply to Merevel (msg # 6):

If you knew how the Storyteller system worked, you could probably cobble together enough sources to get an idea of what's going on. Each of the Spheres, for example, can be found on sribd.com. If you google 'Mage Sphere Forces" it should be the first result. Change 'Forces' for the other Spheres and you're good.

But it would be tricky to learn the whole system on-line.

Re: oWoD Mage

Resources online? Sort of, but if you just read a list of rules, you won't make sense of Mage. It's a game that took me months to really "understand," and that's because you can't break things like paradigms or the vagueness of spheres into simple rules.

Also, consider this another vote. I would literally eat my hat for a chance to play a classic Mage game.

When you live in a smaller part of the world and have a group of friends who only want to play D&D, then yes. 4RLY.

Re: oWoD Mage

I'm interested in anything, whether that's vanilla Mage or something crunchy without the Traditions and Ascension War stuff.

Pretty much my only character for Mage was a Son of Ether. That's about all I remember!

Re: oWoD Mage

I will play Mage in pretty much any setting, as it is my favorite RPG ever. Ever. Like really, I love it. If a game starts please let me know.
