Night's Black Agents

I have found a few games that have started off decently but always get caught up in either planning or due to GM burnout. I just want a game where there's a small group of spies doing spy-ish things against vampire conspiracies. I'd probably prefer something more action-movie-focused, but I could live with anything.

That being said, I'm not that experienced with the system, which is another reason I want to try it. I hear great things about GUMSHOE in general, and want to see it in practice.

Re: Night's Black Agents

I would love to be able to try this game out. It seems amazingly impressive but I want to play it before trying to run it.

Re: Night's Black Agents

I've been part of two games here one died quickly the other went for a few months and the GM was really good but had RL issues he needed to go sort out so closed the game which was a pity.

I'd love to give it a go as a player if a GM could be found

Re: Night's Black Agents

I have NBA and would love to try it out. If you are OK with a GM who is new to NBA (I have run D&D, a lot of Savage Worlds, Apocalypse World and FATE) and fairly new to RPoL we might be able to play.

Re: Night's Black Agents

More than happy for you to run a game. I know very little about the rules as apart from character creation i never got round to using them in either game i was in. So we can learn together :)

A new GM to the game would not bother me. It'd be a learning experience for everyone.

I've been thinking about running a Delta Green type game using NBA

Any more news on either of these games? Maybe something to start tinkering around with?

Re: Night's Black Agents

I've played in a NBA game for several months and run some (Bookhounds) Gumshoe. I'd be interested in helping out and trying to run a game. Perhaps just an opening adventure (or two) to see how it goes?

What kind of game are you guys looking for. I'm more at home with the slightly pulpy, Bourne-style of game (the default I think) and one where the Vamps are less 'traditional' Dracula types. But I'm open... What sort of thing do you want to see in a game?

BTW: The chance of a playing a NBA game again is the reason I've just joined this site. It is such a cool game.

Did this ever come to anything? I just got the main book & would like to take it for a test drive.

@Gremlin Nah. This thread died a death - until you resurrected it. I'd still be interested in running a game if there were some ideas of what people want to see.

Resurrected, like a vampire lord? :O

I don't have any preference as to where in the world we would be. From what i can tell, it's not difficult to go all globe trotty in this game anyway. As far as the style goes, I'd like the sound of the mirror best. When it comes to the evil overlords, I'd prefer to avoid the extra terrestrial type if at all possible.

If that sounds like something you could work with, count me in.

Re: Night's Black Agents

Any interesting location is just a fake ID and a flight away. Mirror type themes are fine by me - I think we just need a couple more players... Anyone?

There is a single-player option, but more fun with 2 or 3.

As for the nasties - I have a liking for supernatural or mutant and have plotted out some of a conspiracy. Not so much that I can't include player ideas though.

Re: Night's Black Agents

Does this mean we're at the point where the game needs creating and an advertisment for players posting?

edit: If so, is this a record time span from a threads creation to the game start?

Re: Night's Black Agents

@Gremlin Call for players might be the next step. I'd like to get some player ideas in the game - even if it is just a location or two.
Have a think about what you want in a game.

I'd tend toward more Bourne-style action and am thinking about blood-sucking vampires vs some other supernatural alpha predator. Can't make my mind up which at the moment...

I've not read up on how to run a game on this site. I'll have a look over the weekend.

Re: Night's Black Agents

Sounds good to me. I have a concept that's got a few holes I can work on over the weekend. I can also read up on the number crunching side of character generation.

When it comes to locations, I'm wide open. I've had a think and there's more places I'd like to play in than I'd have time to list.

Re: Night's Black Agents

@Gremlin Have you ever played and Gumshoe? I only ask as the adventure structure is very free-form and the rules play a little differently from other games. NBA scenes in particular benefit from the PCs prepping (to build pools of points to spend) before they wade in.

Re: Night's Black Agents

No, I've never played this system but have read it several times. I plan on re-reading it this weekend as I'll be girlfriend free. From what I can tell it's more about resource management and making proper use of the skills you have.

Re: Night's Black Agents

If you are reading the rules, skip over the whole vampire section - it makes them much more scary when you don't know what you are up against.

It is resource management, but in addition you can crete extra one-off pools of points to use p107 and tactical fact-finding benefits can make all the difference between life and (un)death.

Re: Night's Black Agents

Vampire section skipped, along with the introductory mission at the end of the book. The TFFBs seem like a nifty idea, kinda like the old 5 p's that gets drilled into most newbies where I work.

Would we be starting having just learnt of the vampire's existance, or would we learn I  the first mission?

Re: Night's Black Agents

When I first played we started not knowing about the vamps. It meant that there were two or three adventures where we referred to the vampires as 'superr-soldiers'. Was interesting.

I'd be inclined to start most players off with no knowledge of the supernatural but then introduce the unexplainable very quickly. Might be okay to have one player who has 'heard stories'.

In general I think it is good to get the Vampirology skill through play, as in each game the vampires are subtly different.

Managed to put an add up Gremlin. Take a look. Any ideas for improvement welcomed...
