Allansia (Pathfinder, D&D 3.5 or AFF)

So, a bit of a random request, but would anyone be interested in running a game using the setting featured in the Fighting Fantasy world? I'll try to keep this short, but my requirements and preferences would be:

  • Level 1 character creation with proportionate in-game rewards. I want to treasure every hard-earned victory, no matter how small.
  • Pathfinder or 3.5 as a system. That said, I can play with the stock Advanced Fighting Fantasy rules, if that's a help.
  • A small group of players wouldn't be a problem for me, if interest arises. All PCs should have a classic Fighting Fantasy feel, however.
  • I'd prefer to play a rogue or sorcerer, but might consider a bard or mage.
  • I'd like to start with a small, simple adventure rather than something along the lines of the FF gamebooks. A relatively minor errand (albeit one that can springboard into a more involved plot) would be great. I believe that even seemingly mundane situations can play out in a fun and interesting way.
  • A sandbox game or a guided plot is fine.
  • I'm don't want to write novels every post, but I do like to put a bit of care and thought into even the shortest replies. Combat, adventure and thrilling heroics are a must, but I also love roleplaying the interactions between the PCs and the world they inhabit. That said, I hate superfluous navel-gazing just as much as I hate mindless hack-and-slash. Balance is key!
  • The specific location within the setting can be negotiated. There's a lot of options, most of which I can happily work with.

I've probably left something out, but I think that's it. Questions and suggestions can be put forward in this thread, or through rMail if preferred. Thanks in advance!

I'd be interested in playing this; but only in Pathfinder or DnD 3.5.

Just one question though -
What do you consider a 'classic Fighting Fantasy feel'?

Re: Allansia (Pathfinder, D&D 3.5 or AFF)

jmacjchunk: Thanks for the reply! I'd be happy to have a look at your game once you've set it up.

willvr: Great to see someone interested in this idea. As to what I meant, I'd say:

  • Races and classes need to reflect the traditional high fantasy trappings of the FF game world.
  • Races: Dwarf, elf, and human as standard choices, with half-elf, half-orc or goblin available, should a suitable background be provided. Perhaps other races could be chosen, but only if they could convincingly fit the setting and can work well as part of a party.
  • Classes: Anything from Pathfinder or D&D, within reason. Some of the less recognizably archetypal classes obviously wouldn't be a great fit, but this could be judged on a case by case basis.
  • No overly quirky character concepts. I'm all for breathing life into established tropes, but I don't want to see them thrown out or cynically subverted for the sake of novelty. So no dwarves raised in elven enclaves, or needlessly elaborate character backgrounds. The party would be formed by newbie adventurers who are at least seemingly representative of their race and culture. I don't require stereotypes, but I do want to see archetypal high fantasy concepts that tie strongly into FF setting.
  • I'm not against having maybe one or two anti-hero types in the party, as long as they can work well with the group.

That said, those are just my own personal hopes. I'm capable of compromising with a GM and other players, if needs be. I just kind of like the ideal of good old-fashioned RP, as I've played so many far-out games as of late.

I'd be interested in playing as well! ;-)
I'd prefer AFF QuickStart rules, but I am in general flexible.
If you'll find yourselves looking for players, please rMail me!

Diskordia -

Aah; pretty basic fantasy feel then. Haven't read those books in years; so wasn't sure.

Not particularly interested in using the AFF Quickstart rules; or the AFF rules in general. I already know too many systems; don't want to add another at this point.

Unless I'm wrong, AFF is probably Advanced Fighting Fantasy.

Yep, AFF does stand for Advanced Fighting Fantasy.

I'm currently running a AFF game based on 'The Riddling Reaver' but I'd love a chance to play as a player. I have the full AFF rules but I can work with the Quickstart rules too.

Re: Allansia (Pathfinder, D&D 3.5 or AFF)

I know that this thread is ten years old and I have been looking for some GM to run classic adventures in Allansia for ages as well... I just finished reworking another AFF campaign I run for some time and then stopped into a proper Adventures in Allansia campaign link to another game
I'm happy to run (using AFF2e) any published Allansian adventure and open to unpublished ones as well.
