A New Newbie Approaches

Sup!
I've never really played DnD or tried to understand its systems before, but I've recently been getting interested in playing with it. Discovered this site about 5 minutes ago and joined immediately since it was exactly what I was looking for. Don't really know where to start, and honestly a bit scared I might mess up. Other than that, glad to be here!

A New Newbie Approaches

In reply to Space man (msg # 1):

Welcome to RPoL!

Everybody starts somewhere, so don't worry about being a "beginner".  A beginner is just someone who has cast off their fear of taking that first big step.

There are some things with which it would do well to familiarize yourself, though.  Start with the Help and FAQs.  That will save you some headaches right at the start.

Places you may wish to visit early on:

Community Chat --> go here to hang out, talk about whatever, and generally get to know the place.

Wanted - Players --> go here to find games that are advertising for players to join.

Wanted - GMs  --> go here to find a GM to run a game you want to play.

Game Proposals, Input, and Advice  --> GMs go here to float proposals for games they are thinking about running.  Everyone goes here to see those proposals and reply, and to get or give advice concerning topics of interest.  Replying to a proposal is a great way to get in on the bottom floor of a game just starting.

There's lots to see and do here, and games of almost every type, size, and genre available.  Here's hoping you find your way to a game you want to play.

Honestly, as long as you don't go acting like a huge jerk, making trouble for other players or GMs or modrators, there's not much you can do to mess up here. Everyone just wants to play their games and have fun.

Following horus's advice and you'll do just fine.
