Hi everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself as I'm totally new to the site and looking for more like-minded people to roleplay with. I'm pretty open to systems (or even free-form) and I am fairly experienced. I'm even up for one-on-one roleplay as long as you're the sort that can keep a story moving along. :)

Feel free to call me Paper or PL for now. I've got roleplay experience in a variety of styles (play by post, play by email, in various videogames, tabletop, etc). I'm 27, female and operate in the GMT timezone.

Ideally I'm looking for fantasy/sci fi/horror settings, I'd rather be a player than a GM for the meantime but I'm also not the sort who will sit passively and put the onus on the GM to do everything. I'm a very collaborative player and am more than happy to help out where I can.

I'm not great with intros so hopefully that's sufficient - if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask or rMail me. I'm still getting used to the site but it does look like this is going to end up being my new home.

Fun! I just joined a couple months ago, myself :) Everyone's pretty friendly. When I began, I started by reading the FAQ and such, and looking in the Wanted: Players forum.

One thing I found difficult that took me by surprise when I first joined - you may have already run into it - was that I couldn't get into any games I actually wanted to play until I had my adult access, and even though I'm in my 40's, I wasn't allowed to even try to apply until my account was 2 weeks old...I found that very irritating.

So you'll be looking for a game that isn't mature or adult to start out - which can be really hard, since most GMs seem to dump games into those categories by default, I guess for the 'just in case' factor.

I found a game that was just getting started when I first joined the site, but couldn't actually get into it. The GM was nice enough to work with me to make a character and set things up for it before I had access, and then I joined the game once I did - so it is possible :)

Yeah, the moderators have had a lot of problems in the adult section of games over the years and imagine the two week waiting period is due to the mass amounts of people that would simply make duplicate accounts (another common problem) whenever they were booted from a game for violating the terms of use.  While it may be frustrating, you can be assured it is short lived and won't come up again so long as you manage to keep things within the rules.

Welcome to the board!  As Akira mentioned, the easiest place to find a game is in the Players: Wanted Forum, which should show up automatically in your sticky list, but other than that if you are looking for something specific you can always do a search and the games with the red asterisk are the ones who are seeking additional players.

There is no waiting period for Mature rated games, so a new user can join them straight away.

   Joined here myself a handful of months ago, and have been playing in a few games here and there to get the hang of it, before I try my hand at GMing something down the road.

   Take the time to some reading on your own - most of what's on RPol is pretty straightforward. If you have questions, feel free to ask - you'll likely get an answer quickly enough with all of the people here (Moderators, as well as the rest of us peasants) are more than willing to help, or at least chime in.

   As for the adult stuff, I usually don't worry about it. I put in my request for access about 2 weeks after I joined and found a couple of games in the meantime that were neither "Mature" or "Adult". But it is a preference if you want to go there.

Sounds like you're going to fit in just fine, PL.  Some things to do before you get into a game:  definitely read the FAQs and knock around in the Help system.  The forums here have some unique game-centric capabilities you won't find anywhere else, and some rules and policies you may find to be different than the usual.  (I say this last from experience.)

You're in the right place to get started, so dig in and enjoy.
