Wanted-Answers

Please help! I can't get into chat, (no javascript and this is not my computer) so I have to post my questions here. Apologies to admins/mods if I'm breaking any rules. I have some questions, and I can get them as this is just about the friendliest bunch of online rpg-ers I've seen.
1st: Do the players roll roll/generate their characters, or is it limited to G.M. handout pre-gens?
2nd: Do the dice rolls show up on the posts? If not, then where?
3rd: Does the G.M. Do all the rolling, or are the players allowed to make their own rolls?

 Once again, I'm sorry if I'm out of order here, but I REALLY want to start hosting some stuff. Thank you for your patience!

The answer to all three is "It depends".

Every game is different, thanks to the preferences of the GM of that particular game. For the most part, though, players are allowed to create their own characters and do their own rolling through an on-site dice roller that you'll see on the top toolbar once you're into a game.

The dice rolls are not automatically included in posts, but a lot of games prefer that you copy-paste the results into your posts.

In reply to NowhereMan (msg # 2):

Thanks a million, nowhereman! Argh! I'm mostly confined to an iPad that doesn't copy and paste. There is another site quite similar, but completely dead, that has a formula that will automatically yield the results when a formula is rolled. Maybe it will work here.

           :dice 2d6:

Nope. Arrrrgh!!!!

But then what is the SECRET ROLL function in the dice roller used for if the player can't see any of the results any way?
(starting to get a wee frustrated, here...)

EDIT:  (See further in the thread) {Deleted incorrect understanding of the function in question...  Oops.}

Were you saying you could not access the Community Chat threads, or that you could not open a chat room of some kind?  (I was not aware RPoL supported that... hmm.)

Re: Wanted-Answers

In reply to horus (msg # 5):

I can't access this site's chat room because I don't have java script. Oh, we'll. Just figured out how to cut and paste with this blasted iPad. If that's the case of the Secret dice roller, then it's totally useless as there are no auto post die functions anyway. And the game map function doesn't work. Hate to sound like a grouch, but Im just having a bit of a hard time navigating this sloppiness.

Re: Wanted-Answers

Anyone in your game can see the rolls made in the dice roller's log, unless you make the roll secret. The game map function does work. You need to upload a map stored on your computer.

Re: Wanted-Answers

In reply to renortis (msg # 6):

And I should probably be more careful.  here's what the Help says about Secret Rolls:

{some license taken with punctuation...}
quote:
Secret roll:  This option makes the roll a private roll, visible only to the GM and the player it was made for.

Try not to get too frustrated with your iPad - it will tend to make it soggy and hard to light.  If you can install an IRC client for it, there is a link to the IRC server given on the chat page.  (A quick search shows several are available...)

If you have a game console or smart TV with web access, you might give that a try?

Good Hunting,
D

It's not the iPad I'm getting frustrated with...
Forget it. This is too unwieldy. Going elsewhere. Thanks for trying, though.
