Can I Invite Specific Players

New GM Question: If I have a select group of friends that I would like to have join the game I just created, can I do that without alerting everyone else? I'd prefer to not open it up to everyone since I already know who I am going to accept. Seems misleading to say "requesting players", however I don't think my select group will be able to see my game unless I have "requesting players" turned on.

You can rMail specific RPOL users to invite them to join a game, yes.  I think four of the last five games I've joined happened that way.  However, using rMail to advertise your game, spamming people with invitations to join, is a fast way to get the hammer dropped on you (it doesn't happen often...and I still remember laughing to myself the day I got a message like that, only to see a few minutes later that the same RPOL user had also included BigBadRon on his spam list--when I read in the Chamber of Lost Souls about how he'd been banned for spamming with game invites.)

If they are people you already know, you're fine.  If they are specific players that you're interested in playing with, you should be okay.  You might have to set the 'Accepting Players' flag on the game, but you don't have to advertise it in Wanted: Players, and as soon as your friends have joined up, you can shut off the flag (and you're under no obligation to accept anyone who might stumble across it while the flag is set and sends in their RTJ...)

You don't need to set the "players wanted" flag at all, unless you want to advertise your game.  Players can do a search for your game on the main menu, without specifying that they're looking for games that are seeking players.

In reply to schmedman (msg # 1):

I did just that in my first game, going so far in its description to admit it and go into my reasons for it.

Basically, what facemaker329 and bigbadron said.  As GM, you have final say on who does and does not play in your game per RP0L policy, anyway, so being up front about it saves everyone time.

Good to know...I wasn't certain if the flag enabled/disabled RTJs (although it does seem like a fair bit of bother if it did...a lot of extra coding to automate something that is perfectly within the capabilities of the GM, in terms of refusing unwanted RTJs.)

Does the 'accepting new players' tag have to be on to get RTJs?

No, it doesn't.  Only to create a Wanted - Players ad.
