oh boy look at that large amount of self-confidence. you can feel it RADIATING from the title wow

oh gee

whatta gal

Anyway, uh, hello. I am pretty awful at doing things. It's kind of expected. Y'know. Because I manage to sound awkward when even typing. You can literally hear the diction of my words just from my insecurities seeping through the computer screen.

1) I suck at reaching out and joining games. And I am also stupid.
(Half because I don't know anything about DnD and... And whatever this... PBD thing is.)

2) My current username (remoraidsniper) is Pretty Stupid™. It has been unanimously agreed upon by my multitudes of friends.
This has been solved with a rename to Elisane. Which is arguably less stupid.

3) I am hopelessly bad in environments that I'm not used to.

4) I spew useless, space-occupying drivel. It's just what I do. Like this entire, disappointing post.

So, nice to meet you folks.

see look that's like pretty hefty amount of letters to read

i bet no one's going to read this and i'll feel worse about myself

and it'll be great

because i expected it

well i guess i'll feel a little bit better because i was right but

whatever

Ha! Ha! ha gods i'm sorry that i'm awkward as heck

Forgot to clarify,
I'm not actually 'new' to the site itself, but all my games were with

people I knew

and before I  developed insecurities

so that's cool

Outside of here I am Very introverted. In side here I am still mildly introverted. I have trouble asking to join games or such.
PBP takes some getting used to. I am better than when I started, but still not fully there and there is nothing wrong with that.

On the plus side my typing skills have improved greatly.

Come in, look around, learn more, talk to people in the Community forums, find things that interest you in the Games, or players wanted area's.
Mostly have fun. The rest will work itself out.

Really not too much reason to be nervous of people on this site, in my experience anyway.  You'll get the occasional player or GM who's just a royal pain but by and large, most people I've spoken with on here are pretty decent...fun too :D

Another introvert here. My suggestion is you learn to revel in the anonymity here. In all the game forums, you are known by your character's name. Only the GMs know your out-of-game handle, unless you wish to share it. So even if you goof-up in one game, you can join another, and no one else will ever know. :)

(Unless, of course, you always use the same character, with the same name, in every game... that's kinda a giveaway that it's the same player -- but it still doesn't reveal your out-of-game handle!)

No one but the individual GMs will know if you apply for a game, or which games, or how many. That's a heck of a lot of privacy with which to operate.

Helps me, at least. Trying to approach a group of gamers in person is beyond me; last time I thought seriously about Just Doing It, I triggered some kind of panic attack that locked up my lungs so I couldn't breathe. I was standing there in the game store thinking, "Oh, crap, I'm going to pass out from lack of air -- and won't that draw all kinds of attention!" Needless to say, I instantly abandoned the idea, which seemed to ease the panic, and once I could breathe again, I quietly departed. Not going to try that again anytime soon! :P

That's when I went looking online for games. I'm about 75% less shy hidden behind a computer screen. And I do have a considerable amount of confidence in my skills with the written word, which helps a lot.

So go look around, read a lot, and when you're ready, remember that no one can see behind your handle, and in a game, no one but one other person can see even that much. ;)

Yes, many of us are introverted, awkward nerds here.   But that's one of the things I love about rpol; we can take our time and say what we want, rather than having to blurt out something in conversation.

But we're usually a pretty understanding bunch here, so you can feel at home with us.

Ahh, people actually replied. I do feel a bit better now.

Also, if confused, changed name to Elisane.

Anywho, that's neat to know; my last (and only) RPoL experience was with a group which we planned with for quite a while, which went perfectly fine. I wanted to delve more into RPoL, considering the resources were super neat!

...Also, the anonymity is a big plus.

I would bet actual money that you are better at all that stuff than you give yourself credit for.  Here's how to prove it - join a game, create a character who acts like some of the qualities you think you don't have, act out that character.  You can't mess up pretending to be a character that you just made up, so no pressure.  And you can't actually do anything with your character that you're not somehow capable of doing yourself, even if you think you're faking it at that moment.

Sounds like your game has ended and you're asking to join a game without asking...

However, to prevent chaos, the rules of this site restrict GMs from spamming their game ideas and so require the player to take a step forward. You can do it. :)

You should do things you want to do, never mind what other people want. Pick a style and genre of game you like to play and just go and enjoy yourself.

There are three options:

1. Check out the Players Wanted forum for a game you might like, and then just ask to join it. So they refuse, so what? Go join another, it's their loss. :)

2. Put your own ad in the GMs Wanted forum, doing what you did here, and ask for a GM who is willing to work with an insecure player. So nobody replies, so what? Keep bumping your ad until someone offers. You got responses here, but it's the wrong forum for anyone to offer you a game.

3. Look up a particular GM using the homepage search function and see what they are doing. Maybe somebody you were playing with before, somebody you know, etc. (you don't want to spam anyone). Maybe they'll have a game you like. So they say no, so what? Try someone else.

And maybe they won't refuse, maybe they will reply, and maybe you'll find a great game to enjoy and meet some new friends. :)

Good luck.

BTW. PBP is Play By Post - this style of gaming where players interact by posting messages.

icosahedron has excellent advice here; I just want to add one bit to the point I quoted.  Some games, especially for the more popular systems, get lots and lots of people requesting to join.  Every GM has their own preference for how many players they're willing to accept, but there aren't many out there (at least, not that I've encountered) who will take 15 or 20 for a game.  So if you do apply for a game and don't get in, definitely don't take it personally - there are probably more people in the same situation as you than there are people who did actually get accepted.

Re: internalized screaming because i'm clueless about everything

In reply to Dr. Mindermast (msg # 11):

Just to add a note to Dr. Mindermast...while plenty of people request to join, much fewer actually begin playing, and still another quadrant leave shortly after the game starts (usually without notice).  If you see a game you really like the idea of, by all means, shoot the GM a message.  If anyone disappears they'll think of the next person on the list who showed enthusiasm.  This has worked several times for me as a player and gotten a few people into games I'm running.  Enthusiasm is always appreciated.
