Faerie Fire and Sacred Flame

When you cast Faerie Fire and succeed all attacks on the affected target obtain advantage.

When you cast Sacred Flame on a target affected by Faerie Fire, they have to make a DEX save or be hit.

Since the sacred flame attack is resolved by a saving throw and not an AC check, should the target be disadvantaged on the saving throw to give the attacker the advantage that the rest of his group gets?

Going by the books, it would not grant disadvantage.

Faerie Fire grants advantage to attacks directly against it. I believe this is mainly due to the glow that would make it easier to see them? Since Sacred Flame requires them to dodge the attack and not the attacker hit them, it would not fall in this category.

Most of the publications would state if saves or the like would gain disadvantage as well. So if it's not mentioned, typically there's no change to it.

OK but sacred flame is an attack against the effected target. The same issue results when trying to deal with advantage granted by surprise.

Example: a wizard and a cleric both gain surprise which grants advantage on attacks. The wizard throws a firebolt and can roll advantage because his attack is against the targets AC.

The cleric however, casts sacred flame which requires the surprised target to make a dexterity saving throw. My argument is that the surprise mechanic falls apart at this point unless the target has disadvantage on it's saving throw.

The text of Sacred Flame describes "Flame-like radiance" that "descends on a creature."  By that, I'd think of Sacred Flame more like a trap that is being tripped than an attack coming from the cleric.  Would you give the target of a trap disadvantage just because they were surprised by it?

In reply to KR4G3N (msg # 1):

Granting advantage to attack rolls isn't the same as granting disadvantage to saving throws.  Being able to benefit from mechanics that affect attack rolls (Critical Hits, advantage, Bardsong, and the Help action) is one of the advantages of spells that require attack rolls.

Part of the cost of the automatic hit of save-or-damage spells is not benefiting from mechanics that aid your attack.
