All round newbie to DnD

I have rp'd in the past with a muse in a forum based story world but nothing  structured as the Dungeon an dragons (Though I did have the board game way back in 2003 but I haven't touched it since.

I own the starter set and the players handbook just out of interest for DnD and it has taken my interest but trying to find meets irl has been a little trying so i took my search online for DnD 5th edition.

Through what i have at home and online resources I have tried to (hopefully got it right) build up my first cleric, generated through rolls, which I am more than happy to take critique over however I am yet to fully understand selecting magic and spells so have given that a miss st the moment.

All round newbie to DnD

It might be an idea to state which edition of DnD this character is for - looking at the skill list it's something earlier than 4th, I presume (but I've not played any 5th so I don't know what the characters are like for that) ;). It might also be good to provide a bit more fluff for your character rather than just a strictly mechanical outline - if you're looking for someone to consider accepting this character into a game, they might want to know more about what the character's personality is like and stuff, rather than what kind of dice their player can roll ;).

In reply to Ameena (msg # 2):

Thanks for the reply ^^
It's all compiled from the the 5th edition but I'll edit that in to my org post.
I am working on fleshing the character out as we speak though I am a little unsure how to tie her into the world of DnD without delving a little deeper into the universe and such, just wanted the stats up to see if the figures were actually any good for a cleric with only having a vague understanding despite the book and a pocket full of dice haha XD but thanks all again!

Tying your character into the story would depend on the specific story - different GMs will use different settings and there's also the other PCs to take into consideration, how well your character might get on with them and stuff like that :). Whether or not the stats etc are "good" will also probably depend on the nature of the specific game, like whether a certain ability will be useful in combat - lots of Cleric abilities tend to be good against undead but if you find yourself in a campaign with no undead at all, such abilities will probably never get used.

Unfortunately I can't really offer any guidance on the mechanics since as I mentioned, I've not got round to trying 5th Edition yet - most of my experience has been with its immediate predecessor (which lots of people hate, though I'm not really sure why - personally I find the first two editions horrendously complicated and don't like them very much ;)). I've heard 5th is generally pretty good, though, not too complicated or anything.

Ahh I didn't think about that to take into consideration also sorry for the late reply busy work weekend  :)

No need to apologise as any advice is good advice and certainly better than no receiving any at all so again many thanks ^^ I was planning on making at least 2 different characters at least but I will work on bringing my cleric to life first  and see how that pans out.

I have heard many complaints at the previous edition but I wouldn't know personally from not playing/having an inttrest since rough 2003 (i was only 12 then o_O)

Well, I have no problems with 4th Edition - it's just one of those things that's down to personal preference, really. I think some people find it very "dumbed down" but personally I like not having to make about ten different calculations before I roll a die. The combat is pretty mechanical but as with any RPG you can still fluff things to make it run smoother and with a more narrative flow if you want to :).

One further note - if you want to develop a character and put him/her into a game, that's fine, but you should take into consideration the fact that you may find you have to change some aspect(s) of your character in order to fit into said game. I mean, depending on the specific story or setting you may find that some part of your character's backstory or personality needs tweaking in order to fit within that particular story/setting. So like a GM preparing a game, it may not be a great idea to plan out every tiniest little detail because chances are you will have to change it when it needs to work with what other people have done ;).
