Omnicide:
I'm new to this site, and to have someone dependable to show me the ins and outs would be helpful. I've RolePlay ed for a while. I use T-1/TB Novella.
Hi, Omnicide, and Welcome!
I'll start by saying that the best favor you can do for yourself is to read the rules and preamble materials for any board you might visit here. (
Not saying you haven't, just trying to save you some grief
if you haven't.)
There are some things you can do to come up to speed quickly. Reading the Help and FAQs has already been mentioned, but it's worth a repeat - lots of good info on how the boards work is in those documents. Definitely hit the search function, Wanted - Players, and Wanted - GMs. Yeah, I know, already said, but worth saying again.
I'm not familiar with T-1/TB Novella, but there may be others here who are. Advertising in the correct places will hook you up with a GM or players more quickly.
Okay, some new methods:
Find a game that looks interesting to you and request to join as a Lurker. You won't play or post very much, but you'll get to watch experienced players and an experienced GM in action - I'm currently lurking in a Serenity campaign, and it has given me much food for thought as I build my first online campaign.
If you are looking to run a game, the best way to learn how aside from lurking is to put a game concept together and build a game here. That will get you access to the GM Menu for that game, and allow you to test and build.
Be warned: being a GM will give you a lot to do in your spare time if you do it rightly. If your first experiment is not successful and you want a do-over, simply delete it (that way it doesn't count against your game limit or take up useless space.)
(Creating a game is the only way you'll get to actually see and fiddle with the GM's Menu.)
