Greetings!

Hello!
I’ve been role-playing for 20+ years, tabletop, but never play by post. I’m an aspiring writer/game designer looking  to sharpen my skills and I thought this would be a great place to do just that. I rarely get to play live any more, due to adulting. Looking forward to joining a game here!

I’ve played a number of systems and am always looking to experience another.
Played: All versions of D and D (except 4E), Old World of Darkeness, Gurps, Cyberpunk, Rifts, Torg, and Champions.

Question:
Do GMs ever go to the “Looking for GMs” area or is it just filled with sad posts of people that cannot find a game?

Thanks everyone!

In my experience, you have more success in this forum if you have a general idea of something you'd like to play and are open to more possibilities.  It can be good for letting people know "Hey, this obscure system we love, some of us actually do play it!"

When people have some... oddly specific requests, those tend to be shots in the dark.

Re: Greetings!

I've seen quite a few 'GM wanted' posts get answered. I've answered a few myself: 7th Sea, Other Dust, Iron Kingdoms (d20), Chronicles of Radagast, Top Secret, Star Drive, D&D Mystara, D&D 5e, Talislanta, and Pathfinder.

The issue is that there are so many game systems and so many settings that it's sometimes hard to find a GM that is familiar with that system, has the time and is willing to run such a game. They are out there, but they may not be on RPoL yet.

Or they are also running one or more games, and that's all they have the time for.

The more obscure (or less popular) a game is, the less likely that you are to find a willing GM.

Sometimes, it's just a timing issue. If you want a GM for Game-X, you might not find one this month, but if you try again next month, you may find someone... someone who has just joined, or ended a game he was running, or otherwise feels he now has the time.

And, sometimes, your request is just so farfetched that nobody wants to tackle it... like maybe freeform Codex Alera... or Barney the Dinosaur in Superworld, for example. Not that I've ever seen any of those advertised, but you get the drift.
