Reading the FAQs (upper left) will answer a lot of your questions. Beyond that, I suggest going to the 'Wanted-Players' thread and taking a look at what's most recently on offer. If you find an ad that looks intriguing, follow the game link and submit a Request to Join (also known as an RTJ).

    If you check FAQ, you can learn alot.  You can also learn things by checking the public forums, just make sure you read the introductory threads to learn each forums seperate rules.

If you do you will find good places to look for games, and to ask questions.. so you can get useful answers.
