Hi I'd like to learn more about pathfinder and possibly watch some games or participate in a newbie game if possible. Is there a place I can do that or should I just try my luck and wait for a game to pop up?

Well, if you want to watch in a game, I'd say use the site's Search function, find a game that looks interesting to you, and contact the GM to ask if he can add you as a Lurker (you won't be able to post, except for PM's to the GM, but you can read what's going on in the game to get a feel for how it's handled.  Play-by-Post gaming, which is what you'll see here, has a few similarities to table-top gaming...but there are far more differences.

Not every GM will agree to it...but many will, especially if you explain to them that you're new to gaming and want to get a feel for it before you take the plunge and join a game.

You need to mention if you have the Pathfinder book or not.

Not applicable, I'm afraid. Pathfinder has a legal online SRD. You can get started in the system without needing any of the books.
