i need help!

I just joined this, because i wanted to go on a site where i could roleplay, and this is the first thing that popped up. And, to be honest, i don't really know how to do anything or what this site is about.. So if somebody could help me that would be great :)

i need help!

This site is about whatever you want it to be.  It is just here to facilitate role-playing between members.

There are games all the way from your average D&D dungeon crawl to freeform games, to strategy/simulation roleplaying and beyond.

What are your interests?  What do you want to try doing?

Welcome to the site (and possibly to RPGs in general)!

If you want to join a game, there are three ways to proceed:
1) Go to the "Wanted - Players" forum.  Here you will find ads for games that people are running, usually with some kind of description of what the game is about, what rule system it uses (if any), whether or not they will accept newbies, etc.
2) Go to the "Game Proposals, Input, and Advice" forum.  You won't find ads for existing games here, as those belong in WP, but you will find a lot of people tossing around ideas for games they might run to see if other people would be interested in playing.  If you find something you want to try, you can chime in, and hopefully the GM will let you know if/when they set it up.
3) Click the "Browse/Search Games" link at the bottom of the main screen.  If you know that you want to play a particular game system (D&D, Fate, Apocalypse World, etc), or you know that you want to play a game in a certain genre, you can search for existing games that fit within that.  Any game title that comes up with a red asterisk next to it means that they are (probably) accepting new players.

If you don't have any RPG experience, don't have access to rulebooks, or something else along those lines, that's okay.  There are plenty of us here that are willing (or even eager) to help new players get started.  Just be open about whatever you need help with.  And don't take it personally if someone isn't willing to help; sometimes it can be a lot of work from the other end, and not everyone has the time and inclination to do that.

Lastly, there are a lot of abbreviations that get thrown around here.  Many of them are game-specific, but one that you're going to see a lot as you try to get started with games is RTJ.  That stands for "Request to Join."  If you want to join a game and you see it has a thread titled RTJ, make sure to read that first - it will probably have some kind of instructions about what information the person running the game will want from you.

You've posted here...which puts you one up on a few people, when it comes to understanding how to do things here.

To get the most functionality from the site, you need to know what you want to roleplay.  Are you into Dungeons and Dragons?  Some other kind of sword-and-sorcery/fantasy roleplaying?  Science fiction?  Cyberpunk?  Space Opera?  War?  Superheroes?  Horror?  There's a long list of genres/categories of games that you can sort through, but it helps to have an idea of what you're looking for, first.

Some people join this site thinking that it is some kind of massive role-playing forum, rather than understanding that it is a host site for thousands and thousands of smaller, individual games.  It is up to you to find a game that interests you.  The GM will have instructions on what to do to get into that game, if they're still accepting additional players...you follow their directions to join their game.

Beyond that, I would recommend looking through a few games to get a feel for how the actual in-game operations flow, and even that can vary drastically from game to game.  There are some generally-accepted protocols, but they aren't necessarily universal...so it's very difficult to give you specific 'do this, then this, then this' instructions.

Well, The site is what it says on the tin: Role Play on Line, Rpol.(hehe, Role was auto-corrected to rope) Oh... Where to start... First off, I would suggest going to the Wanted- GMs  forum and see if someone will run a game for you, or looking through Wanted- Players fr an interesting game and ask if you can join. (RTJ is the most common name.) RPing... Well, I assume you know how... If you are in a game, all your posts will be your character's name and picture. (If you want, PM (rMail) me and I'll show you some games.) I can't think of anything else...

Re: i need help!

This site also has a wonderful FAQ section, which should give you a great idea on how to do a lot of things. This link is also available in the upper right corner of your screen on every page, along with a red Help button.

Other than that, I think everyone has it covered. Be certain to read the rules of each forum before you post, and have a great day. ;D
