I have never played PbP before and it's been years since I last played a tabletop game, so I'm practically a complete newbie here. Any advice on how to search for a game to apply for?

Hey there, welcome to RPOL :D. If you want to find a game to join, check out the "Wanted - Players" forum. Alternatively, from the main page you can select the "Browse/Search games" link near the bottom, which will let you search for specific systems, genres, etc via tickboxes and text boxes. The Help function (red link, top right of screen) is generally pretty useful if you need to know how something works, too :).
