New to RPoL

Hello! I've been roleplaying on and off for several years but am new to RPoL. This site is pretty different from others I've been on before, so I hope I can get used to it without making a complete fool of myself. >.<

*smiles*  If you managed to use this site without making a single mistake, you'd be the first, my friend.

No worries, I have the computer skills of an Amish Toddler, and I do pretty well here. And please feel free to ask whatever questions you'd like.

The FAQ section is pretty informative, and there are lots of people here to help you.  :)

Okay, cool. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who found things a bit confusing.

You're not, believe me.   This thread is full of questions, some very obvious and some that none of us had ever thought to ask.   :)

But all in all it's not too bad here.  The learning curve isn't too severe.

What kind of gaming are you into?

Re: New to RPoL

I know almost nothing about tabletop games so I guess I fall into the "free-form" category? On other forums I tend to gravitate towards medieval- or modern-fantasy themed stories, but I've done a little bit of everything over the years.

I'll just chime in here to point out that many of the people who run games here are perfectly willing to teach you the rules if you ask for that.  So the fact that you haven't gotten familiar with those kinds of games yet definitely does not need to be an obstacle if you find something that looks interesting but uses a system you don't know.

And as a side note, it's also worth pointing out that there's a pretty broad spectrum between "totally free-form" and "rules for everything," and if you experiment you might find that your preference is somewhere in between.
