This site is looking amazing.

Hello everyone! I'm completely new to this site, and wanted to say hi. I'm a dude with very little roleplaying experience, but boy, do I love it. I'm in a touring ska band, and finding something like this site is perfect for me, as I am on the road over two hundred days a year, and can't join an actual local RPG.

Re: This site is looking amazing.

Hey there!

First thing to realize here.

You aren't just 'one character.'

You don't have any characters until you try to join an individual game.  (This is a difference if you're used to the lay-out of some websites.)

Here - you examine a good in which you think you might be interested in playing - you read that game's "RtJ" (Request to Join) thread.  If you don't mind filling out their questionnaire, find the "request access" link and write to the GM/Narrator/whatever the person hosting the game is calling themselves.

Once you're in a game - THEN you make a character for that game.  This doesn't limit you in any way from participating in another game or even another system!

Ask questions, have fun - and smile =).

You're in a ska band?  That's awesome!  =)  It's even better that you guys are touring.  Five Iron Frenzy's "Wizard Needs Food Badly" is one of my personal anthems.  =)

Yes indeed! We're called Survay Says! FiF is crazy good. We've toured with Reel Big Fish, and Big D and the Kids Table, and played with like, Less Than Jake, and Suburban Legends and stuff. So many crazy experiences.

In reply to GamerHandle (msg # 2):
That's neat. I have only been a part of one thing like this before, and I really had no idea what I was doing, and didn't even join a game haha. The layout of this is really good, because I think I already have the hang of things.

Re: This site is looking amazing.

I am less enthusiastic about the ska thing as some others, although way to make some success out of musical dreams, friend.

First, the FAQs here are well put together, concise, informative and they should be your first stop. Next, drop by places you might find a game; 'Players Wanted', 'GMs Wanted', and 'GPI&A'. If something looks cool, click the game thread, should there be one available, and follow the GMs instructions on an RTJ (request to join.)

Lastly, welcome to RPoL and good gaming to you, sir.

Re: This site is looking amazing.

Not a touring band member, but definitely know the feeling of being a roleplayer and wanting a place to play because face to face play is not an option.  I would love to say you will love it here, but not sure what your needs are in a game, so I will not.  I spend 300+ days over the road as a truck driver and I do love it here.  I get to get my game on and not have to worry about whether or not I will miss a scheduled meeting time to play.  Good luck on finding a game and welcome to rpol.

I'm already loving it! I've joined two games so far. One based on Xcom, and one that a friend is DMing for me, and it's a private game for my whole band! :D

In reply to Holobunny (msg # 6):

We're more pop punk than ska at this point, but we still hold onto the ska moniker.

That can mean so many different things. Would you draw a paralell more with The Clash, Sublime, or Offspring?

If that's what you're going for, we're more like Sum 41 with horns.

Re: This site is looking amazing.

Lol, that's decidedly not what I'm going for, I was just curious. I get down on some music and I have pretty eclectic taste, from Zappa to Nickel Creek to Daft Punk to Jay-Z to Mussorgsky/Ravel to Kingston Trio to Devo, but what you seem to play is NOT up my particular alley. To nail it down, I'm a funk, new wave, classic R&B  sort of guy.

Not to disparage your taste, that's a fig move, but the Sum 41 type scene is one of the things I'm least interested in, musically. You got horns in the band, at least? Everything's better with horns! :)

Re: This site is looking amazing.

Well, right now we're on tour with Carousel Kings, to show where we fit in with. But hey, not everyone has to like our music haha. :P I have very random tastes in music as well, I just happen to play this. I have to say, you do have good tastes at least haha.
