Noob.

Hey all, just checking in and saying hi and all that. Just found this site and man is this daunting for me. I have read the FAQ but it still seems very overwhelming. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Re: Noob.

1. Calm down.
2. Think about what type of games you like.
3. Check out the players wanted forum, and if that fails the gm wanted forum.
4. Have fun.
5. ???
6. Profit

Re: Noob.

Between checking the FAQs and following Merevel's advice, you should have everything under control. If both of the 'Wanted' forums yield little of interest to you, 'Game Proposals, Input, and Advice' can be a good place to check for interesting potential games too, though you may have to wait longer to get started, and the games you find there have no gaurantee of ever getting off the ground. If you're still unsure what this whole RPoL thing is about after all that, you might try finding a game that looks cool and see if the GM minds taking you on as a 'lurker.' Just PM them through the game's thread (NOT rMail) and ask. This will allow you to watch how it's done and read through old stuff, but not participate.

One last thing... Welcome to RPol and happy gaming!

Re: Noob.

First thing to realize here.

You aren't just 'one character.'

You don't have any characters until you try to join an individual game.  (This is a difference if you're used to the lay-out of some websites.)

Here - you examine a good in which you think you might be interested in playing - you read that game's "RtJ" (Request to Join) thread.  If you don't mind filling out their questionnaire, find the "request access" link and write to the GM/Narrator/whatever the person hosting the game is calling themselves.

Once you're in a game - THEN you make a character for that game.  This doesn't limit you in any way from participating in another game or even another system!

Ask questions, have fun - and smile =).

Re: Noob.

And whatever you, do not be cruel (playful cheap shot at a certain gm).

Anyways, welcome to rpol.  It can seem daunting and every venture into this type of gaming world will not be successful.  Remember you are here like the rest of us to have fun.  Don't fret and don't stress.  You will find something you like and since everyone here seems really friendly, you just might make some online friends as well.

Re: Noob.

Oh yeah, do not take rejection personal. It will ruin your time here. Often there are just better applicants or you do not mesh well with the GM's personality. And sometimes GMs leave players wanted flag on when they are not accepting anymore, or flat out refuse to respond to you.
