Just a random question

Is there a way for players to advertise for a game that they did not create? Or is it merely the GM's job to do all the advertising? There is a game I'm playing in however, the issue is we need more players in order to start the story. So I was wondering if there was anyway for me to help out in this case. I'm sure this is a rather easy question but I'm still a newby to this site, so I was just curious.

Re: Just a random question

Only the GM can advertise the game in the Players Wanted forum.

If you're in other games, you could ask the GMs of those games if you could drum up business for the other game, but that's at the GM's sole discretion.

It's good that you ask, though, since advertising for the game as a player can get your post moderated.

Re: Just a random question

Yes, it is the GM's role to create and maintain a Player's Wanted post. If you do this, or start rmailing people to invite them to the game, your account may be locked for a bit. One way to help is to point your GM in the direction of gamers you think might be interested. Another is to remind the GM to post/bump a game ad.

If I have this wrong, then I welcome correction. Awhile back, I was locked for a few hours trying to help a GM. I've since learned my lesson. :)

Re: Just a random question

I've had some luck in rmailing friends to join games, as well as one or two people I got friendly with in the Community Chat forum, but be very careful about contacting people you don't know well.  The rmail very clearly says:

quote:
Do not send unwanted rMail or game advertisements by this medium!
A report of the latter will get all rMail privileges immediately, irrevocably and permanently revoked!

There may be some leeway regarding what's considered "unwanted", but it's not worth getting your account locked.

Yeah. I thought they were friends. They weren't! Similar user names.

Re: Just a random question

To be fair, the Mods were quick and explained everything up front. I had a short moment to shoot a PM or rmail off to my GMs to give them a head's up about being locked out. When my account was unlocked, they were cool. No lingering resentment or anything.

This not to say you should go about breaking rules. I'm just saying that Mods don't enforce rules because they hate you.

Re: Just a random question

Ah, ok. Thank you so much for answering my question. I guess i'll just have to see how things play out, since I don't really want to have my account locked. Thank you once again!

Re: Just a random question

The best we can do otherwise is bump their ad for them. I had a gm with some technical issues so I bumped her ad.

Good luck. Makes me wonder though lol.

Re: Just a random question

Another alternative, some GMs allow players to advertise within their games -- either in the OOC or a thread set aside for it.

It's usually good to ask the GM if they're good with that, and I'd certainly make sure the GM of the game you're advertising FOR is okay with you recruiting for the game first.  :-)
