I'm new to this forum but not that new to pbp. I'm used to participating in freeform contemporary games but I'm open for other genres such as apocalyptic or horror/thriller.
I have never done anything but freeform though I could be willing to join other systems. I think it would ask some degree of patience as I have zero experience in that department.
Feel free to post any suggestions while I'm exploring this place.

I did play D&D in when I was teen and I just play Free form online. I suggest you to practice with Free-form cos you'll familiarize with the website and the habits.
After that you can go with something more complicated.
It's just my advice

Yes, some games, like D&D have websites that give the rules for free.
Some DMs might be too busy to teach you, but many would love to teach someone the rules to their game.
