A friend bought me a copy of the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Players Handbook for my (recent) birthday, because 'you like that kind of thing'

I've not played any roleplaying games before, but have played a few TCG/CCGs.

I don't play 5th edition myself, but there are plenty of games popping up.   Be sure to check out Players Wanted for open games, or use the Browse feature at the bottom of the main screen to look for them.  You could also put your own add in Wanted GMs to ask for one.
There are seemingly endless numbers of great games, fantastic players and wonderful writers here.   Feel free to try some other game systems (or some freeform games that have no system at all) as well.   Have fun, and please feel free to ask any questions you'd like.

Welcome, both. You'll find RPGs are much wider than just D&D or even Fantasy - just take a look at the list of game categories at the bottom of the homepage. You can recreate just about anything here - The Hobbit, Star Wars, Twilight, Harry Potter, Charmed, James Bond, Wyatt Earp, Indiana Jones, Miss Marple, Jane Eyre, Robin Hood, Treasure Island, superheroes versus zombies, you name it, you can probably find players for it.
D&D is just the tip of the iceberg. :)
